milkmaid, I found this on the BBC Scotland site

"

1608:

Western Isles Emergency Planning Co-ordination Group - which involves the council and police - has urged people on Lewis and Harris NOT to travel unless absolutely necessary between 17:00 and 19:00. It said winds were expected to gradually ease after 17:00 but said care should still be taken."

So if you stay put for an hour or so longer, you'll be better able to get to the people you need to get to. Just now would NOT be a good time to try!

I think EDI would be lined up parallel to headwinds so its only compensating for strong headwinds that would be the main issue in landing. The problems come more with crosswinds when the winds are blowing across the runway giving the pilot more of a challenge in compensating for drift.

BBC say no snow for the central belt until Saturday 6am...We will see if they are right. When that rain band comes south keep your eyes on the temperature. :sorry:

That's just normal Scottish skiing weather. If it's blowing in the right direction (uphill), you don't even need a tow....

 aye, been there a few times, it's such a pain in the ar*e when you want to ski back down though

Temps pretty erratic here, dropped to 2.4C, now back at 4.1C. Very interested to see what that monster mass of precipitation coming in off the north west is going to look like when it arrives

That is some photo, stormeh!!! Strewth...

It's blowing a hoolie here now - 36-54mph, 6C and 980mb. But it's steadier than it was. As in, the wind isn't dropping and rising and dropping but blowing more solidly.
