Am pretty sure this storm will be upgraded by Meto with more areas receiving Amber warnings. Possibly deserves Red in areas.

LP much tamer on the 18z run, could it be a case of "GFS over deepening low pressure systems again, for it to drastically water them down within reliable time frame.

Seriously heavy snow, 0C, but don't have NL's wind at all - flat calm.

Same story here, dead calm but has been steady snow for last 2hrs which has topped up the snow cover to 19 cm.

This weeks weather looks very busy and possibly quite worrying for some too, interesting to see what manifests

Agreed, it probably does deserve a red warning, some places will get a short lived severe blizzard if the models are right. Western coastal areas get 50-55kts sustained looking at the ECM, even Glasgow gets 35-40kts sustained. Doesn't sound like much but you could probably double those figures with gusts...so 70-80kts gusts is very severe...

Interesting set-up for snow as well, the ECM suggests heavy snowfall for the morning, changing to rain for most away from the higher ground. Then as the cold air comes back down it turns back to snow...some locations will keep the snow the whole way through and so 10-12 inches looks very possible for those locations, probably above say 300M, with severe blizzards.

GFS loves the dartboard lows, I wouldn't class this system as tame, even if watered down it will still pack a punch either via wind or the following blizzards.

I think in all honesty I hope you are right and the intensity is reduced, the wind profiles just posted in the other thread are dangerous. Mix in icy roads, wind, then blizzards, everything to get excited about yes. Just not very safe.

Well we've got seriously heavy RAIN here! Just had a gust of 37.9 with the winds turning more NW again. Temps have risen to 3.6c with dew point up to 2.6c. I would expect the temps to start falling again soon now I think. Hopefully not too much of a skating rink here tomorrow. Have to say I'm a bit concerned about the predicted storm.

Still time for a downgrade of this storm, 48hrs is a long time in terms of intensity, but I've never seen the ECM pack a low that strong that close to Scotland as it does at 48hrs.

Going to be a very interesting set-up to watch, SO much to talk about with it, the glaes, the rain in the middle for some, the heavy snow at the start and end, the severe blizzards for some, etc!!

There was lightning about 10 mins a wee while ago. Here in Torrance there is about 1-2cm of snow on the ground and there's still snow on the roofs. The fields in the area are also still white so that's good.

Snow stopped & 7cm lying, absolute flat calm & 0C. Serene. Probably the last time I'll use that word for a while!

There really hasn't been any word about the snow from late Thursday into Friday. Although the winds are going to be the most severe aspect of the weather this end of week, I'd like to know what's going to happen when those -5C uppers at the backedge of the low interact with strong winds and heavy rain and also the strong NWly flow afterwards.

GFS progging 14-18cm of snow falling around the Fort William, Glen Coe and Loch Lomond from Friday as far through until Monday (within a reliable timeframe.) Going to be some significant transport problems when this pans out, although Aviemore could do with the covering for the start of the season.

Another 2 inches of snow overnight, temperature must have got above freezing for a bit as it is bit wet on roofs and next to house walls but currently 0c and calm with sparkling snow surface so must have fallen as skies cleared and dawn broke. This cold snap is turning into a cold spell.
