Sleet earlier today in Halifax, then at around 4pm it really started snowing for a bit, problem was the ground is wet but still a covering, lovely heavy snow with big chunky flakes, more shower activity moving in!

If that turns out to be right, that's about as extreme as it gets in Britain isn't it?

Having said that, won't hold my breath! Was expecting a nice cold frosty winter day today with the odd snow shower. Got a mild and wet one (after some early ice).

God help us...

post-6181-0-67182000-1323555881_thumb.pn

I know we were all praying to heavens and saying the same thing about thursdays storm, but this is just absolutely crazy and you are correct 'god help us' and I do not by any means, mean that lightly. If it verifies. The strength of the low, was never forecast to be super strong like scotland on thursday anyway, but it was quite severe at times. That chart is just fricking crazy.

Yes, i wouldn't be surprised to see a state of emergency if that chart verified? I reckon it will be pushed further north over time, and decrease a little in strength. This seriously needs watching though!

If it moves further north, it will probably intensify.

If it weakens, it will probably move further south, but still pack a punch.

Yes, im all up for a storm, but thats pushing it! Gusts of 90mph possibly up to 100mph would occur quite widely across our region if the GFS was to come to frutation. I think whats most worrying is the amount of agreement in the models, i mean the ECM and UKMO are also severe for our area.

This chat from GFS shows our region getting the worst of the weather on Friday

Well, GFS puts the 'eye' of the storm over Yorkshire for a brief time on Friday..

Before deepening, and moving out to the North Sea, bringing severe gales to Yorkshire, North East England and Eastern Scotland.

Okay so a tricky start tomorrow for West Yorkshire...

850s undercutting the precipitation between 3-6 am turning increasingly to snow, especially to high ground.

* 850s -4

850.png

* Dew point 0/-1

dewpoint.png

* Precipitation - Moderate/heavy

ppn.png

* Precipitation type- Rapidly turning to snow

ppntype.png

Whether there will be any snowfall accumulations remains to be seen, several hours of snowfall likely leading to perhaps a couple of cm's, especially but not exclusively to high ground.

GFS goes for zero PPN across most of England at 6am, UKMO goes for some but further south and east. Anyway Saddleworth looks in a decent position to see some snow so I wouldn't give up just yet.

Anyone with Net Weather Extra confirm whether the NAE looks the same as the NMM? Please.

I wonder if we could see a a similar snowfall to the one back in January/February, mostly restricted to West Yorkshire leaving everywhere else snowless? :winky:
