It's that thing that started on the 21st of December or the beginning of December, depending on how you like to do things.

February tends to be the most wintry month so plenty of time for things to turn colder... :)

Ah! Thanks for the explanation. Had me confused there for a while PP!

Snow granules and ice above 1060ft on Eccles Pike yesterday (2 Jan) visibility was quite crisp giving views as far north as the Winter Hill range near Bolton. This is looking east towards Rushup Edge with the remains of more compacted snow still remain on the Brown Knoll and Kinder plateau.

Winds picked up at approx 3am here, with heavy rain which has stopped now, currently blowing a hooley, metO. has latest reading at 6.30 as 42mph with gusts of 56 mph, sounds alot worse, pressure 984hpa and falling. My area isn't covered by metO warnings according to their site, we seem to be surrounded by the shaded areas. Rain started again, very heavy, car alams going off and sat signal lost on tv!

A very scary journey from Bacup to Bury at 0730. Unbelievable gusts and horizontal rain. Seems to have calmed down a bit now and looking at the radar there was a squall line which explains a lot.

Huge squall just started here in the last few mins.

Wowee, what rain and gusts.

Lost the TV pic for a while. I've quickly boiled a flask of

coffee in case we lose the 'leccy !

I know it's a lot worse for many.

BL.

67mph gust for Crosby! :o This is a bit stronger than I was expecting, because I think the cold front cleared here shortly after 8!

Driving was almost impossible around 8am here, can't believe the MO didn't have a SWW out for us.

I had a 53mph gust this morning, which for my station is pretty high. A less sheletered anonometer 5 miles away recorded a 75mph gust before 7am. Still raining here, with just over 20mm of rain so far, and the river outside the office nice and high, but unlikely to go over.
