MetO's severe yellow alert for Thursday & Friday still shows the storm is on the way, but the update was at 12:30 hrs, so we'll have to wait for their next update to see their take on what they think is going to take place.

A big anvil to the south has just missed us in Brighton. Was hoping for a bit of hail at least!

Only got the rubbish camera at work and my phone! Next door's factory is in the way to capture anything to the West. I can see some Cb's building out over the Channel probably off Shoreham.

Here's what I think is just about over home:

Everything looks out on the Channel! What good is that? - hail on the sea is useless!

Hey Yammers! Good to see you again this winter, I look forward to your posts.

Do you think we could see the odd bit of sleet in these approaching showers?

Hi Amanzi, Cold rain!!!! Heavy snow for a few hours on Friday which could turn to blizzards in the storm force winds.

Cracking good anvil there Coast

It was a classic in real life, but I just couldn't capture the detail in the light conditions with this old Fuji compact. Hey ho, was a thing of beauty anyway

Amanzi - your just down the road from me! I've been outside most of the day and its been soooo much colder than i thought it wud b today - temp in car at 3.30pm was only 3c so was really wondering if this band of rain could be a bit wintry too?

Seems such a shame that the next few days/wkend is gonna b so cold but no ppn to give us snow! Ggrrr! Frustrated!

well i live on the coast here in kent, and last night i reckon 100mph gusts easily, i also lived lived on the coast in 87, littlestone-on-sea, its down on the romney marshes. now if we get any where near the wind speeds that night, we are in big trouble, im supposed to go to a funereal in the midlands on thursday, but im in two minds now, because, i dont want to leave my young family at home, worrying, that they will be ok.. oh and i supposed to be a pall bearer, and im not looking forward to that in 80 mph winds lol..

That's not even funny... sorry :fool:.

Hopefully it won't be that bad. :good:

Hi weathergeek,

GFS & UKMO both show -4 upper temps for a period on Friday when the storm force winds kick in with heavy precip. I'm very surprised ECM has backed away from the storm. MetO still have their severe alert warning for the SE, but this was issued at 12:31 today, so it will be interesting what the alert shows later on. All eyes on tonights GFS 18z output.

Hi Marie, The volatile warm and cold air colliding is producing unprecedented deep lows. The projected deep low for Thursday night into Friday is still on course, but how far South or North will it anchor is the problem for the MetO. They know that if the low circulates further South along the Channel, there is a very strong chance that it could pulsate just like the famous 1987 storm. I have a very bad feeling about this low pressure. Having said that, Storm or no Storm, we will be under -4 upper temps and with the heavy precip, we should see some snow for a time on Friday.

Hi Marie & Yamkin

Last nights howling was fairly prolonged and a wee bit scary at 1.30am! The temps for Brighton are 12degrees midnight Thursday and no lower than 4 friday day(at the moment) - I presume the forecase wont be clear for another 24hrs, but I have a feeling it will be wild again too!

Normally I'm an "extreme" weather fan, but seeing as I'm flying out of Gatwick to Vegas on Friday I'm starting to get a dreadful feeling about things.

Don't know how accurate this is as it's often wind direction dependant, but think that 50knots + and airports start to close thier runways??

:(

Ooops something is amiss with my signatures.......need to delve in to the software!! :sorry:
