Thank god I got a new door this summer. I fear my old one would be leaking and blown through :)

Got very nasty outside.

Yup, some proper gusty winds here now! Heavy rain too! Trees are going to take a battering in the next few days!

Been lashing down for about 2 hours here in North BTL - in the last hour the winds have really increased - a stormy night for sure.

Am I right in thinking that if that streamer comes off we are going to be plastered in snow?

Probably not.. If anything it will be the wet fluffy kind that melts quickly ( unless you have a good ASL )

Not plasetered unfortunetly no. Very unlikely anywhere but the highest of ground ( Dartmoor, Exmoor, high Mendips, High Cotswolds etc ) will get any snow settle. What it does show though is that there looks to be a constant feed of showers come up from the Bristol channel, and under evaporative cooling, these showers will be wintry, even to lower levels. Sleet and wet snow likely for low levels, nothing that will stick. Snow on higher levels.

Still, up until recently, this wasnt even shown. So the chance for a lot of us to see our first snowflakes of the season over the next 36 hours are the best yet.

Hello winter, its been a while...!!!

My back door isn't going to blow through but annoyingly it is leaking. Damn you south facing garden (apart from the summer of course)

I actually advised someone flying on Christmas day that snow was very unlikely... but I thought they were flying from Bournemouth not Cardiff... we'll see...

im up for that, working near Frome tomorrow, not sure how much will make it down there. realise it wont settle but would be gert lush to see some white stuff falling from the sky, especially as its a last minute-ish forecast

Up to 11c here, pressure still dropping - 986mb, and rain rate increasing.

Still praying for sight of a flake tomorrow, but sadly unlikely, though we all know how things can change in a very short time.

What's with the weird star pattern on the radar in the south of the country! (Netweather radar that is)

This is a genuine question, there has to be a reason... though be quick if you're looking it's going fast!

Latest 18z NAE still has a Bristol streamer going.

11121312_1218.gif

On a side note, persistent heavy rain here for hours now. Flooding in places tomorrow me thinks. :help:

Perhaps something for the Cotswolds tomorrow evening

11121318_1218.gif

Somerset and Dorset and SE Wiltshire might get something Wednesday morning

Before another Bristol Streamer sets up.11121412_1212.gif

So all in all, some interesting developments for the next couple of days.

Looking further afield, some decent uppers progged for the weekend

11121806_1212.gif

Although little PPN about unfortunetly

A couple of tweets from Ian Fergusson this evening

W COUNTRY: Tues offers enhanced wintry shower potential for Cotswolds & Forest of Dean. Potential for 2-5cm accumulation on these uplands.

When Someone asked about snow for Bristol, he tweeted this

no, I said heavier showers may bring some periodic wintry flavour to low levels but not settle. Uplands are main snow potential

And problems up in Gloucs.

21:53hrs: Glos Police are advising against non-essential journeys; a number of reports of trees/power cables down & localised flooding

And Wiltshire

Getting reports of weather issues in Wilts: Power cables blocking between A345 & Ford nr Salisbury. Branches B4192 Liddington to Aldbourne.

Anyone experiencing problems in those areas?

the guy is a legend, his forecasts on local weather are so much more informative than the national weather, although i suppose its to accomodate halfwits.

interesting lumps of red (viewing on poor mans radar..) clusters due to hit north devon maybe 2-3 hours??

Well I'm in Cheltenham for the night having been doing some sound work. Driving back to where I'm staying was a mixture of aquaplaning and struggling against the wind to get the car up to speed!

I'm travelling back tomorrow - a route that takes me over the Cotswolds through some of the highest points on the A40 so it could be an interesting drive, hopefully more picturesque than dangerous (although having managed the journey across there after the snow just before last Xmas this should hopefully be far easier!)

One thing to bear in mind re:lack of precip showing on NAE - even mesoscale models such as these generally don't pick up much on convection, and with rather warm waters surrounding these parts just about now showery activity is likely to be enhanced I would have thought. I thnk Jay summed it up nicely.

Expect the unexpected!

Evaporative cooling will be key tomorrow and whilst there is unlikely to be too much to worry about other than the looking factor below 100-150m, above this could be quite picturesque.

Yes! iI also follow mr Ian Fergusson on twitter and find his tweets most interesting and also informative. I espect the cotswolds to see first snowfall of the season tomoz, if not they will experience sleet/snow showers, i believe! Interesting to hear of the potential of a Bristol Streamer.
