The most memorable thing for me about December 2010 was seeing the River Aire in Leeds completely frozen over. I don't know when that last happened - maybe 1963? Obviously the canals freeze over easily, but to see the normally fast-flowing Aire covered in ice was a surreal sight.

This was my Daughters first Christmas, and there was still snow on the ground on Christmas day. We had lights in the garden for santa, and with more snow falling on boxing day it was truly magical.

cheese Off topic, I know, but so nice to hear about the River Aire and Leeds, cheese.  We had to leave Leeds, Queenswood Drive in 1955 when I was 9.  My father worked down at "Fairbairns"

Thundery wintry showers Did you have 11cms fall on christmas day or lying.

Christmas Day brought a surprise snowfall here, only about an inch or so, but it came out of the blue. The forecasts suggested a light snow feature tracking through the borders but not here, and they just brushed it off - hardly any christmas day snow predictions. It arrived late morning and topped off an exceptional cold 4 week spell.

In Penrith this was the coldest month since records began in 1903, mean temperature a remarkable -2.7c, slightly lower than the -2.5c recorded in February 1947, snow reached depth of 13cms during first cold spell but just 5cms during second. Lowest min a bone chilling -17.7c on the 7th.

Derwentwater at Keswick was completely frozen and you could walk from shore to shore.
