Deadly Flooding In Brazil

Weeks of abnormally heavy rainfall have left parts of eastern Brazil under muddy flood waters.

One of the hardest hit states is Minas Gerais where flash flooding and mudslides have claimed the lives of at least eight people thus far.

More than 50 towns in Minas Gerais have already declared a state of emergency.

To make matters worse, a dam broke near Campos de Goytacazes, in the state of Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, forcing thousands of people from their homes. Water rushing downstream from the broken dam left a gaping hole in a nearby highway.

Unfortunately, a stalled boundary will lead to the development of more heavy rain across the states of Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro from Friday into early next week.

This new round of heavy rainfall will hamper clean-up efforts while also leading to more flooding problems in both states.

This deadly flooding comes almost a year after widespread flooding in similar areas left more than 500 dead.

Quite a notable event that. Though interestingly my cousins in Rio de Janeiro city said that it rained solid for two days midweek and now the sun is back out and they're at the beach! Nothing out of the ordinary in the city itself.
