Pffffffffffffffffft! Well I tried to redress the balance, so to speak, so googled 'male model snow' only I ended up with articles about the longevity of male snow crabs!

This will have to do:

It seems if the GEM verifies then the midlands will be the snow capital of england!

Well I'm now resigned to a few minutes of wet snow on Saturday before it turns to rain - bringing my 13 month snow drought to an end in the worst possible way. Oh well, there's always next year.

As expected the charts haven't backed down which is a major dissapointment as I was still clinging onto some hope of snow this weekend but agreeement is firming up now for it just storm on through with milder conditions following.

At least the sun's back today!

here we go, after a few days of raising our hopes, the models once again bring reality in with a thump. We aren't going to see any snow this winter... mark my words.

I refer the honourable gentlemen to the post below by NW's very own esteemed forecaster TWS.....I think his post speaks volumes, is the voice of sanity and in all likely hood is going to be pretty close to the mark......In particular, cast your eyes on his final paragraph....Come monday next week, I've a sneaky feeling that his forecast will have varified

I don't think snow showers will be very widespread in eastern areas tomorrow. The issue shifts from airmass stability to lack of a significant easterly flow- we'll probably end up with a fair number of snow showers out in the North Sea but very limited progress onshore. It should brighten up for most with sharp night frosts as a result.

There is currently strong uncertainty on the duration and location of frontal snow this weekend. The GFS and UKMO both have milder air pushing in by Sunday after frontal snowfalls in central and eastern England on Saturday, but the ECMWF shows the colder air hanging on in eastern areas until Monday, and the ECMWF ensemble mean persists in showing the cold air hanging on until late next week, with a resurgence of the continental blocking high giving a cold dry southerly flow. If the ECMWF (operational or ensemble mean) verifies there could be quite serious frontal snowfalls for some.

Recent modelling has shown the UKMO to be slightly over-progressive, the ECMWF has been slightly under-progressive and the GFS has been way out- the 00Z/06Z/18Z have fluctuated and the 12Z runs have overdone the easterly to a significantly greater extent than the ECM. On this basis I think something in between the UKMO operational and the ECMWF ensemble mean is likely- the milder air probably pushing in by Monday but allowing frontal snow over both days of the weekend.

I would be happy with that, if we get a weekend of snow it can be as mild as it likes next weekemd, just one weekend. Not seen a flake of snow to my knowledge in the city of nottingham since Decemeber 2010 and entire year with nothing, just a couple of days with the kids in the snow is all I ask for 2012

I have to admit this weekend looks awful now. It looks like rain all the way with the GFS now shifting the cold away Friday night! Why cant the opposite ever happen like a cold spell arriving earlier.

Still, time for change and not over at all yet but nonetheless, it continues of the endless boring weather since January 2011.

If we aren't likely to see snow for the rest of winter... let's just throw the towel in and pray for a freak heatwave, eh? :p

I do feel we may see a slight backtrack westwards with todays 12z, however whether thats enough to see us get 10 minutes of snow, or 5 hours of snow before the rain sets in im not overally sure. Im trying to take a positive look on things today, but after the runs so far today & Walsall lasst night and the England cricket team's recent performance, im struggling to find anything to be positive about in my life at the moment! :clapping:

I've got a good feeling about Saturday/Sunday. When the real cold spell was 'on', it looked as though we'd get nothing as usual. Us Midlanders get our real good snowfalls from battleground scenarios and stalling fronts that could be rain/snow. If it's rain, it'll probably be dangerous with how cold the ground will be by then but I reckon it's going to be snow longer than we reckon. At least there's a bit of excitement in the offing instead of clear skies and cold.

12z is the nail in the coffin for any wintry potential this weekend, even milder than the 06z, eugh why oh why did we have to go from a potential amazing cold spell to nothing yet again, so dissapointing!

12z is as bad as it gets for this weekend really. Precip no where near the cold and each run sinks the high faster and faster. Its now over pretty much Friday afternoon!

Still, there are models which are disagreeing. :D

There's a shocker. What a pile of crud this is - the weather over the last 12 months or so has made me so dis-enchanted from bothering in 2012. What a useless, boring, depressing crappy winter. Im sure someone will comment on 'trends' in the next few hours or so - but we've been doing that for over 6 WHOLE WEEKS! Yet the trend has brought is a couple of mediocre frosts and some cloudy dull weather. Useless.

It is very frustrating, the UKMO is not as awful but it's still an all rain event for anyone west of Birmingham with snow to rain for the East Midlands.

If we just get a 100mile shift westwards id be so much happier - even to see a couple of hours of snow. By the way, what time are we expecting the front to hit on Saturday?

To be honest I am completely drained after this past week. Will it, won't it? I can't take it anymore! I will be happy if we at least get a couple of hours of heavy snow before it turns to rain over in the east midlands. Don't get me wrong, I would love it to stay as snow the whole way through, but reading the other messages, it doesn't look like it is going to happen. If we only end up getting rain and not even a transitional snow event, then I will certainly give up being interested in the weather from then on. It's far too depressing to get all hyped up over nothing in the end.

There is plenty of disagreement in the models even in the short term, as the experts have commented on and...........on second thoughts I'm not going to bother explaining as for some folk it will just fall upon deaf ears.................*yawn*

GFS says Snow, quickly back to rain.

UKMETO, could be interesting.

The GME (is the best so far) it has cold uppers over the entire region. Unfortunately, it's cannon fodder.

well netweather 5 day charts show 15 to 20mm of ppn for my location on Saturday with ground temps at -1 to 1 from 6.00am to midnight.

i know this is simplest viewing and only model generated but its definately close for good snow event ( here at least).

from experience frontal events are nearly always close run things, thats the nature of them, temos just hit freezing, maybe drop below and bingo, heavy snow. Best situations are when the ppn heads in falls as heavy snow against the cold air gets out to the east coast, then slowly pushed back again.

Anyway this past winter has been so frustating waiting for Feb 2012 and GPs forcast of a cold end, lets justy hope theres a suprise over the next 100hours, plenty of time for a backtrack ??

we only need a small on this time, for the chance of some good snow.

:good:

what a backtrack on euro models! but still got to go with GFS here, is main model after all, websites base forecasts around it

although GFS 12Z is famous for too much zonal aggressive Atlantic

The GFS is ALWAYS too aggressive with the Atlantic, on all of it's runs..

Chris.. Can't see those showers on the NetWeather radar yet
