Just keeping an eye on that.. hopefully snow for us.. temps still below freezing now down to -1

what i would expect, think we'll be unlucky to get above freezing today, but im not entirely sure you are far enough away from the coast.

Precip outlook for today. Notice the backedge has little rain (which will be freezing rain) moving on through as the cold front occludes later on in the day.

So probably freezing rain, pretty rare in this country!

Still thats the problem with living close to the coast I suppose.

Tell that to that muppet Swainclubber.

Had a go at me last night because I said freezing rain was rare.

started snowing again, the flakes are very small though, is that a bad sign?

Evaporative cooling coming into play for you.

Send that shower this way. :D

Must be warmer air trapped in that shower btw as it's from the Irish Sea, and not part of the front.

No, quite the opposite.

Small flakes are harder to freeze thanks to a smaller surface area, if anything, it's a great sign that the atmosphere is very supportive of snow.

Liam J will have to eat his words when he gets some snow.

Again maybe my eyes but the whole things looks to be moving pretty much directly West to east as opposed to SE as progged.

Anyone?

Id say the main front is moving ESE but then that shower around Liverpool looks to be moving NE.

Still mostly rain here, but temperature has stalled at 0.4c so hopefully the rain may turn to snow for a while as the cold air diggs in and the heavier stuff arrives. Off to Manchester in a bit so I might see a few flakes there at least ! :~)

i would say freezing rain isn't just rare here, but the entirety of the UK as a whole. It only happens in very rare conditions, much of which we never see.

I wouldn't be so sure of what the BBC say, what your seeing on the radar is convection in overdrive currently. about 2 hours ago it was still over western ireland..so an estimate of 3pm looks to be way off the mark with the speed this is moving

oh-ho - see what you mean - oh well I got a shovel in the back of the car lol

I'd say Manchester has a decent chance of getting decent snow I'd have thought looking at the 06z models....but really its a nowcasting event now.
