High ground in north England may get 15cm, I fancy chilterns getting similar amounts as front grinds to a halt overnight in the east

Retweeted by Matt Hugo. Thats more along my line of thinking from last night...

i would say freezing rain isn't just rare here, but the entirety of the UK as a whole. It only happens in very rare conditions, much of which we never see.

Don't jinx it.

Yes it was freezing rain, every wood and mettal serfice now has a layer of ice on it. Never seen that before. Lets hope the colder air is better mixed in with the main front.

We had a Freezing Rain event in 2010 in parts of West Yorksire very Dangerous at the time going to work i must have seen 10 plus people slip over and cars busses stuck skidding all over obviously was a ice ring at the time something i wouldn't wish to happen again, even tho it was great to see. 0.4c and rain here. The odd flake mixed in but not enough to even call it sleet really.

BT we only need to wait for that cold front to come charging through, id imagine we'll get the negative temp and the dp where its at now..am not really concerned..but the strange this is why is it raining at -1C and low dp?...maybe their reading is way off..just a thought! coz i cant see why it would be rain when it should be snow

Something to bookmark for later on, traffic cams across the motorways of the Northwest (countrywide as a whole aswell but as it's the NW forum I'd give us lot the Manchester link first) http://www.bbc.co.uk/travelnews/manchester/trafficcameras/

The 'neighbouring areas' tab to the right is for places outside of the region.

Can't see that mate.

Out wetbulb is still very much sub-zero too, so I doubt it'll rain here.

From Matt Hugo on Twitter

From Matt Hugo on twitter re freezing rain currently reported

"I believe it's because the initial PPN is associated with a warm front which increases the risk of freezing r

rain... however, this becomes les of an issue as the fronts occlude through the day, so FZRA perhaps poss initially in places.
