"Confidence in forecast snow depths is currently much lower than it was for last weekend"

Knew it. This probably is going to be a radar-watching on the day event because the models just cant agree.

And the NE above Middlesbrough!! I am feeling very pessimistic tonight, the other night we got freezing rain which was an event I have not seen before like that so interesting but 30miles down the road were getting plastered...It's probably because we have been spoiled the past few years that I feel so very disappointed! lol

Ian F v positive this evening on his twitter account for our area, esp NE of the West Country - if the high res model at Meto is to be believed one would imagine the sweet spot to be the SW Midlands - Cotswolds into Oxfordshire.

I'm sure things will change come this time tom.

NAE at 9.15 this eve should be interesting

At this stage there is no point trying to pin down exact areas, although it adds to the fun. The snow on Jan 6 2010 was supposed to be centred over Wiltshire and was confidently predicted right up to the time it started. In the end East Hampshire and West Surrey and Sussex got the the bulk of it.

Is the snow starting to track from Scotland south east into north sea and then cut back west catching most of s. central England?

ECM looks a cross between NAE and GFS.

Its showing snow from Thursday 9am to Friday 3am across Leeds. A full 18 hours of snow.

Back to the snow event, its complicated as some colder upper air is heading west and as it engages that front this is when the precip is likely to increase in intensity.

Hi Loveweather and welcome to netweather,

there is a thread to discuss the possible snow at the end of this week here...

http://forum.netweather.tv/topic/72499-significant-snowfreezing-rain-risk-9-10th-february/

also if you could pop your location in your profile that would be great... Its handy when reporting snow fall to know where you are.

You can do this by clicking on your profile (top right hand corner), then clicking "edit profile". Add your location and save - thanks !

I think this from Ian F is very enlightening (in the sense of cause of modelling differences)

a shortwave trough-ridge feature now N of Azores will dictate the E/SE extent of snow. UKMO aware of it's uncertain influence.

Only place id be comfortable sitting in right now is southern midlands...even further north in the midlands has the risk of marginality

At last, it looks like my area in the west country is smack in the firing line according to the local forecast by good ol Ian f, instead of it being an east/south east event, makes a change that!

Here's hoping for some decent snowfall late tomorrow and into friday morning :good:

Ian Ferguson has tweeted again and is now indicating that the area affected will be a little further west.....definitely a trend to send if further west all the time....I reckon it could end up in Ireland at this rate! :)
