Tropical Cyclone Cyril

A new tropical cyclone (or tropical storm) has been created in Western Pacific Ocean.

Yep, this one is in the South Pacific Ocean near Fiji. 11P has certainly consolidated rapidly thanks to low shear and warm sea temps. The cyclone is racing east-southeastwards along the southern periphery of a steering ridge to the north. This fast motion will take 11P quickly over cooler water initiating weakening. Current intensity is 35kts. JTWC expect a peak of 45kts before the weakening begins. In a couple days time there won't be much left of 11P.

Now been given the name Cyril by Fini Met.

Cyril appears to be rapidly strengthening. An eye is clearly visible on satellite imagery. The next JTWC update will be interesting.

The eye feature did not last and intensity has only risen to 50kts. Weakening should commence now as Cyril is moving into cooler waters and increasing shear.
