    Hey guys,

I've had this app for a few weeks now and I got a chance to properly use it last night under the clear skies!

It's basically an app available for iPhone (and possible Android?)

It uses the iPhone's compass to give 100% accurate readings of the sky, and has every known star & planet in the solar system implemented into the database. You can point your phone at the sky and it gives you the exact locations of every star, planet, satellite & man made structure in space.

I used it yesterday to identify several planets and many stars which stand out from the rest. Here's a couple of screen shots of the app:

It also has a search option so you can find whatever you're looking for, and it gives the times of moonrise, moonset, sunrise, and sunset.

A truly awesome app. Does anyone have this?

I'll get it later for the iPad when I have a WiFi connection, looks cool though! :)

There's a similar one for Android phones, but I'll not bother as it won't be as good on the small screen.

It's the best app I have, simply astonishing.

It's about £2 if your iPad isn't jailbroken. Worth it though, I didn't pay for it, but if I did I can tell you now it's worth it!

Ive always used Stellarium (on Windows PC) and can't rate it highly enough, I dont have an Iphone but my younger brother has recently got the one thats just came out and has Stellarium running on it (had a shot and its just as good as the Windows version), I think it's a free app you get on the Stellarium website and to my knowledge my bro's phone has the original firmware running on it.

I have the android app called Skeye. Uses GPS for your location, an the accelerometer to tell the angle the phones at and the compass for direction. You just point it towards whatever you want to identify, works pretty well.

And as above, Stellarium is fantastic.

Not a big fan of Stellarium tbh. Tested it, and Star Walk just walks all over it.
