Neil Bradshaw at South Shields is registering 16.8C, 0.1C off my Cleadon record set on 13th February 1998, so it could well be close there too.

Meanwhile cloudy down here in Norwich (I'm in Norwich from today to Thursday)- d'oh!

My mother says that it's 16.2C at Cleadon, so the 13th February 1998 record might (just) be safe.

Well, we maxed at 11.0C.. mild, but no sunshine.. and always a bit breezy making it feel that little bit cooler.. so alas, it has yet to feel like 'Spring' here.. despite the mild true temperatures

17°C - I think we've peaked though. Bear in mind that my garden is a sun trap, so it might be too high. (The thermometer is in the shade though)

Newcastle reached a balmy 26c (79f) today in clear blue skies.

Beat that :p

What are you referring to? The temperature in your house / office? Newcastle Australia?

Haha, I actually dislike heat like that warm anyway so I don't know why I'm pretending it's been anywhere near that warm!

Off work this weeek and have to say the walk to and from the school to collect the youngest was truly springlike, very very nice indeed.

Another mild/warm day here in Hull

Looking at the latest 12z GFS chance of some potentially very cold and snowy weather on the horizon *next Tuesday/Wednesday onwards* would be widespread snowfall potential going by the latest run, whether or not it materializes is another question, we have a LP system expected to be centered across the UK and as this shifts South/South Westwards it will drag in colder air from the North East, leaving us in a very cold and snowy NE'rly feed.

Anyone seen the 12z GFS? A Pennines blizzard then significant snow from the North Sea at low levels Tuesday/Wednesday next week. The NE'ly is unlikely to come off, but the ECM from this morning would probably still give a hefty dump on Monday over high ground so the chilly low is likely to come off. I'm supposed to be in Cumbria from Saturday-Monday, but I might end up travelling home on Sunday afternoon!

EDIT: beat me to it Lewis ;)

Yes I know, how exciting - if it comes off.

Certainly the UKMETO make no mention of this potential.

Fingers and toes crossed though :good:

Despite forecast highs in the 15-17C range it only reached 13.4C here despite unbroken sunshine for the entire day. A very mild day for February but well down on the 16.2C last Thursday.

These setups of tropical maritime air seem to give very localised areas of warmer temperatures. It just shows how unusual February 1998 was.

ECM shows increasing amounts of snow into inland parts of Cumbria late on Sunday as colder air filters in via a WNW. The NE'ly doesn't make it, but we still get a few cold days with the possibility of some snow.

Hmmm. What temps have the stations around Durham City recorded today? I recorded 14.4 degC in Ferryhill and Paul had 14.5 degC in Newton Aycliffe, both in bright sunshine. Yet just 6 miles up the road from me the temperature was reported as 3 degC higher? This needs checking. It was mild, but it didn't feel like a 17+ deg day to me. Any other readings from you guys close by?

Boulmer was 16°C, so 16-17°C may have occurred elsewhere locally. I reached 17°C, but that was in my back garden, so I can't really compare with an official reading.

Wonder if the regional regional discussions will open back up with a potential potent NW'erly, followed by a good old NE'erly next week.

It'll depend on how busy it gets. If we want the proper regionals back we need London to get a pasting.

There is often a slight fohn effect near the east coast in these south-westerly regimes so it isn't unusual for places near the coast to be a degree or two warmer than inland areas. In my experience my readings at Cleadon are usually well in line with what "official" sites record during October-February, though from April-August the maxima are often a degree or two on the high side. Today got to 16.2C there, which I find believable, though readings of 17-18C are a bit suspect.

I've had another look at the GFS and that potent low on Monday would deliver heavy wet snow to Northumberland and the Pennines, probably to quite low levels too once you get inland. I'm not sure whether the ECM would deliver as much precipitation, but it looks similarly cold for Monday. The likes of Tyneside would be borderline for snow/sleet/rain, but no more marginal than the 16th December which gave 2cm here.

Like I said, my garden is a sun trap, hence why I recorded 17°C. I have been known to record 30°C whilst the official temperature is 25°C. My readings still give an indication of how pleasant it was out in the garden though! :)

I would have thought fohn effects could occur anywhere east of the hills..
