Made up for a sunny afternoon with a maximum of 14.1C. Warmest since Nov 15th.

Indeed, a very pleasant sunny afternoon.

The 12z brings back a risk of some back edge snow on Sunday if we get the northern edge of the precipitation from the Channel low. Nothing to get excited about though, and nothing to even get bored about if you are below 200m asl!

Well after a nice few sunny days here with tempertures of 16+ i am no well and truly out of winter mode looking forward to some spring warmth hopefully.

About winter the worst i can ever remember for my favorite type of weather snow or strong northerly winds to really get the north sea roaring. 1 day of snow and no stright northerlys just a few north westerlys. For model watching again very poor apart from a few days at the back end of january of the 12 weeks of official winter i would say 11 of them have been complete dross.

Rant over

I don't think there's much to get excited about unless you live on high ground- dull and windy with "cold rain" on Saturday (temperatures stuck at around 4 to 6C) and lighter rain on Sunday before it turns dry and sunny and quite mild to the east of high ground early next week. With westerly winds and tropical maritime air Cumbria may not see much relief from the low cloud and murk of recent days.

The last "convective" day here was way back in late January!

4-6C?? I think temps will be much higher than that and any rainfall will be very brief across the regions before brighter skies finally move in from the west in the afternoon with temps around 10C? Sunday looks a bit more complicated but it looks brighter and dry once again, maybe a NE'ly flow developing as we go from Sunday night into Monday?

As for the bit in bold, the last convective day was just a couple of weeks ago? From a westerly airflow, managed to pick up just a few showers, one of them just heavy enough for a bit of sleet/graupel to fall!

Ah yes that day a couple of weeks ago probably had the best cloud formations of the entire winter. I'm hoping I'll see some heavy showers in Cumbria tomorrow afternoon though, it looks pretty convective to me.

I imagine its that type of rain where it just "floats" around like snowflakes does but looking at the temperatures then obviously it is just rain.

Hopefully it will pour here for a few hours - a good rainfall, plus something interesting to talk about after the recent bore-fest that has been going on for weeks.

The rain has virtually stopped here at the moment, it appears on the radar that there is a clear gap. However the cloud base is actually dropping ast the tops are going into the gloom and they were clear an hour ago. I don't hold out any hope for anything wintery unless the temperatures really drop away quickly before the remainder of the rain goes through.
