The 40 over match between Nottinghamshire and Lancashire at Trent Bridge on the 22nd July 2006 was abandoned when a mesocyclone struck the ground producing daytime darkness.

Here's Sky Sports footage and a BBC forecast showing a radar image of the storm. This was mid-afternoon but look how dark it is behind the commentary team whilst having a discussion. It looks as dark as night!

I remember this well!

We had a similar experience in Bournemouth earlier that day... came over so dark that tthe street lights came on and the small kids playing in my street were wondering why they would have to go to bed in a minute even though they,d had no lunch and dinner!

I'd seen the radar and could hear the sferics on the radio so knew that something big was coming.

Nearly an inch of rain fell in half an hour.
