It started off cloudy in Cleadon with light rain and a temperature of around 8C, following an overnight minimum of 6.5C. A band of heavy rain spread from the north around 11am accompanied by a sharp temperature drop and a gusty NE wind, followed by two hours of sleet, but I think with marginal temperatures and being close to the coast, that's the way it will stay tonight.

13mm of precipitation so far, current temperature 2.4C.

been raining on and off since about 0930 more so pm, temperature slowly dropping its now 8.5C from its high of 10.1C at 1059; fairly light breeze slowly moving round from WSW to NNW now.

my rainguage always less than others in the area currnetly shows 2.4mm; quite different weather from folk no that far awa.

But then look at the weather and temperatures further north, 8C in one place and 4C less than 10 miles up the road, its been snowing fairly heavily all day in the southern uplands, Eskdalemuir so I suspect the Peak District will have a reasonable cover by morning-TM?? get your shovel!

Yes John, im hopeing of seeing a covering in the morning here. Been patchy rain on and off from midday, have had around 4mm but seems to have now cleared for the time being. Temp should drop rapidly over the next few hours as the winds turn to a more N/E direction. Im just hopeing the band of percipitation does'nt frizzel out befor it reaches here.

But the shovels are on standby.

Can the UK professional weather forecasters actually forecast the correct weather more than12 hours in advance?

This time yday eve the forecast for our area for tomorrow morning was a wintry mix - the latest Beeb forecast a few mins ago indicates the precipitation belt to be across mid-Wales and the Midlands by tomorrow afternoon and not even reaching our area?
