A stunning spring day here in the Lake District. Wall to wall blue skies and sunshine from dawn till dusk and with light winds feeling so much more springlike than yesterday. The air has been sparkling and the visibility and view of the fells perfectly clear - as clear as you can get... you rarely get these conditions in the summer - when heat haze and pollution spoil the clarity of the air.

However, despite the abundant sunshine and light winds, there was still a chilly edge to the air, thanks to the cold polar source, whereas last week we saw temps easily hit 19/20 degrees under very similiar weather characteristics, today we only just got into double figures, and temps quickly began to tumble as the sun set.

Its a pity for those lucky enough to have tomorrow off, that today's weather couldn't have waited until tomorrow. Unfortunately tomorrow looks like being a drab dull affair with bits and pieces of drizzly rain, at least for the holidaymakers in the Lakes they have got to experience the Lake District really at its best on a glorious day in Spring.. I do love northerly airstreams.. they might be cold, but they are great for sunshine and clear skies and superb views for these parts. April 5th 2012 has been a gem of a day.

A day with alternating cloudy and sunny spells. Despite only reaching 8.7C, it was still pleasant in the sunshine, although quite cool out of it. Our snow cover had all but disappeared by this morning. Now, it is clear and 0.3C; I'm confident of recording an air frost.
