Down to 3.5c now 8.2c under hazy sunny skies. Hopefully cloud won't ruin this first weekend sunny day I've seen in god knows how many weeks.

Definitely back to normal - currently raining, cloudy and cold. Still it was nice to see a few brief mins of sun again to remind myself what it looks like... ugh.

I recorded the first air frost in May here since 1996

I'm always surprised at how "not cold" you are given your elevation. Last year I had two air frosts in May, 2010 I had seven....

Unfortunately with regard to minima the elevation works against me. The site is almost at the top of the moor and, apart from in the westerly quadrant, where it's almost flat, the ground slopes steeply away into the valleys and that's where all the cold air ends up.

Added to that it's almost always windy so there's no chance of low temperatures at night due to inversions.

Places like Buxton, at a similar elevation, are surrounded by even higher ground and record much lower minima due to the frost hollow effect

Edit; A light shower of sleet and ice pellets at the moment.

Thanks Aaron, was just curious. As TM has said elevation must be a big player to where air frost's form. Light snow pellets blowing about at the moment.,

Now into the 6th week of unrelenting dross.

Sunny spells during the morning but still the temp remained in single figures and it's turned into a horrid afternoon with mostly cloudy skies and showers of icy rain/ice pellets.

Temp a winter-like 6.3C at the moment following a high earlier of 9.7C. No frost last night due to the wind ruining the chances yet againsleep.png Min was +0.6C.

A pleasant late afternoon now with increasingly bright sunny spells after some hazy sunny spells earlier in the day, although there were a few light showers first thing as the Cold Front edged South.

12.0c, a fresh NNE breeze and humidity well down on recent days at 69%.

    • Wet March so far with more rain for the rest of the month, but hints of more settled weather early April

It's been a wet March for much of the UK, with well above average rainfall, though the Northern & Western Isles have been drier than average. Despite a colder drier respite on Monday, staying generally unsettled to see out the rest of the month. But hints of some drier weather in early April. Read the full update here
