Christchurch had its coldest day ever, reaching a mere 0.4C and had about 20cm of snow in places. Higher elevations reached one metre.

It was a warm conveyor snow situation, with a cold southerly at the surface, which is perfect conditions for heavy snow in Canterbury.

Quite remarkable that the Christchurch record was broken by almost a full degree and many years of records.

Glad that despite global warming very cold still has capacity to occur ( especially this part of the world! )
