Looks like the GFS was correct and the NAE wrong, the heaviest rain is right over us here. Hopefully this wont be like June 2007 and sit over us all day. Its pretty heavy at the moment.

Eeek yes, it's been pouring down for two hours now and it's so dark overhead.

Standing water already in parts of gardens.

Think I may see the first rumble of thunder all year with this blob coming at me. Great, mind you I think it'll coincide with when I set off for work, shall be interesting.

Getting progressively darker.

Probably not the time to be talking about this but i'll mention it anyway tease.gif Can someone with a bit more understanding explain how the Pennines seem to be having hardly any effect at all on the rain as it passes E - W. Looking at the radar, the intensity is being maintained throughout. The rain event of 2 weeks ago, was significantly moderated by the hills whilst passing W - E.

Probably a simple explanation but i'm just interested to know whats going on here.

Heavens have opened, have to say, the rain seems heavier than it looks on radar.

Thunder and thick fog earlier, rain and thick fog now.

11.2mm so far. Not that heavy just now, we seem to be on the edge of it just about.

Unless the large area of rain over northern England pivots south, or there is some sort of spectacular development to the east, there is no way we'll be getting a months worth of rain today despite what the local weather forecasts keep saying. I already feel deeply aggrieved that I missed a really good storm yesterday evening by about 6 miles and this is just poking a stick into a raw wound.

Well no way near the rainfall forecast. Steady rain for the last few hours, certainly not heavy or damaging plus its clearing.

Thankfully it has eased right up now and the sky is lighter.

Not so bad as feared.

Spell of heavy rain and thunder this morning, but we're out of it now, just spells of drizzle with persistent mist/fog. :)

Tipping it down here, the storm that missed TM last night past over me around 8.15pm. Will look at the rainfall totals tonight, there could be more than some expect.

The rain is persistent and heavy at times here but nothing at the moment like it was the other week. That said the radar is showing up some further beefy band of rain/showers out to the east so I won't be counting the chickens just yet.

I'll be interested to know what you had in that storm. My son was out cycling and got caught in it between Youlgreave and Elton, he said it was the heaviest rain he's ever ridden in.
