About to head off on holiday to South East France, about 10 miles north west of the city of Nice. Just wondering are they having a heatwave down there at the moment as it is currently 34 C in Nice and their average seems to be around 27-28 C for July? Also only 20% humidity seems an unlikely reading.

Screenshot from MSN weather but BBC weather says exactly the same readings:

They do have a strange micro-climate which keeps them (Cannes/Nice area) around 22-23C overnight but never above 36C during the day, but 34C today looks like a daily record so hotter than usual and yes the 34C is genuine Meteociel also says 34C.

Thanks for the reply. Looking back at this year's temperature history , it seems to have come on a bit suddenly as they have only had one 30 degree day so far this year and today it has shot up to 34. Getting a bit more heat than I had bargained for. Should be lovely. EDIT: gone up to 35 degrees now

Water temperature there is 25-26C, should feel extremely nice if you swim as well, when are you going?

Flying out tomorrow morning. Also visiting Monaco and over the Italian border as well since they are only 20 or 30 miles away.

Looking at the 12z chart. Le Cannet 33C and Nice 35C.

Jammy so &so,

I can't get out until the end of Sept.

It's nothing out of the ordinary at this time of year for the temps to get into the middle 30's and sometimes even higher - they have a time from about mid July to mid August which they call a "Canicule" - this is the period when the temperature does not really drop much night and day and is a time of constant heat, the stone buildings act as storage heaters, though if you go to the beach and sit within about 3 metres of the water it shoud be a nice cool 28C. Also it is sometimes cooler at night to have your bedroom windows closed rather than open.

And yes a humidity of 20% isn't uncommon with temps in the mid 30's.
