It's funny as many forecasts show it as pretty dry with just the chance of a shower.

And Friday's still progged to be a very warm day. GFS going for 26 degrees again.

I think its now looking that any storms will be triggered by that front moving se rather than being imported from northern France.

This makes the speed of that front pretty crucial to the Opening Ceremony, annoyingly the GFS 06hrs run brings the precip in at 8pm just ast the 00hrs did and the UKMO fax charts shows the front making further se progress than on yesterday evenings.

We're left in a bif of a conundrum here as the GFS does show a clearance in the precip but typically after the ceremony is due to finish, that would just be rotten luck!

So we either need a delay in that front or it to scoot through much quicker, at this timeframe there is still likely to be some changes so we just have to hope for the best.

Looks to me like quite a weak feature.

More than likely it will stay dry in London whilst thunderstorms down here knock out the satellite signal !

Unless theres a trough line then if its just showers then by 9pm they should start diminishing in the London area, I think its the second front which could be more problematical, that looks a bit more active.

The BBC seem to be playing it safe, they probably will continue with the fence sitting even on Friday! Although it is a difficult forecast, we just have to wait and see and hope!

No point worrying about precip on Tuesday evening for Friday evening! This will go to the line....I would imagine from this set up that some folks will get torrential rain and localized flooding .others will escape!help.gifhelp.gifhelp.gif

Met O Fax charts for 12z Friday

Currently if you are quick you can see 3 of these, including one given T+84 and time of issue 0608 this morning which I had not seen before, the latest one has date stamp of 1747 today.

Each subsequent one has shifted/amalgamated the cold front as it moves towards the London area.

This latest one has it almost on to London with a gradient about NW which would help to move it east I would expect. It might be that they are now expecting the cold front to clear the Olympic site before the opening ceremony begins.

Interesting to compare the 3 charts though.

well the experts on here last weekend had it a nailed on washout for a wet opening ceremony and on the weather just they said that there might be the odd shower.

there was talk of an embarrassment to locog and a washout of massive proportions.

doesn't seem likely now.

I didn't see anyone saying the Opening Ceremony was definitely going to be a washout more just that there was alot of uncertainty with a thunderstorm risk. Thats what the charts suggested and thats still a risk, although at the moment the thunderstorms moving up from France look like they may stay there.

Theres still 3 days to go and the timing of those fronts to the nw could still also change. It's a case of just keeping our fingers crossed.

go back and look at the model thread last weekend. many people said it was going to be a washout. gleefully as well.

i'm all for people commenting on what they see but when they comment on things that are over a week away as though its fact when we all know things don't work out like that i get a little bit annoyed.

Maybe a pinch of salt should be taken before believing what anyone says the exact weather conditions will be in a weeks time?

Yes well anyone gleefully hoping for a washout should be ashamed. Just like some of the miseries who have done nothing but moan about the Olympics, there were even people moaning on other sites about a few fireworks and noise from the Olympic dress rehearsal!

Tell me about it - I hate the moaners. Complaining endlessly about the traffic and extra people on the tube, how it is inconveniencing their lives blah blah blah. They should go and live in a developing country (who would only be too glad to hold an event such as this) and find something real to complain about.

Having been lucky enough to gain a ticket to last night's dress rehearsal I find it sad that people chose to complain about the noise. Some people really need to get out more in this country.

Suffice to say, you must all make sure you watch as there are some fantastic set pieces involved. Mr Boyle really has worked wonders! A dry night would be wonderful for everyone present and the country as a whole! smile.png I'm keeping everything crossed

I'm going to the final dress rehearsal tomorrow evening and i can't wait! Nothing the moaners can say will stop me having an amazing time. And am looking forward to a dry and warm ceremony on Friday - these showers, if they happen at all, look a far cry from the "washout" conditions a few days ago which some were wishing and gloating about, as they did with the Jubilee. Usual suspects - misery guts.

True I was reading some comments online where you got the attitude from some people that because they don't live in London then they could care less, no Olympic Games can encompass the whole country in terms of venues. Some people almost want the whole thing to fail as to get back at the government without a thought for the athletes who have worked hard to get to an Olympics, or all the volunteers who are willing to give up their time to be ambassadors for the country.

Theres a certain minority who can do nothing but bad mouth Britain, its utterly shameful and they can't even find it in their bitter hearts to wish for these games to go well or just be a little bit proud.

I hope you have a great time at the dress rehearsal, I'm very envious but very excited about the Games and really look forward to Friday night.

I have everything crossed that the weather holds out.

Cheers Nick - as you say, there are a number of people who do all they can to run down the country and moan, no matter what. Events like this really show up those who do nothing but accentuate the negative.

I guess it's the same in many countries but we do take moaning to an art form in the UK . There's much imperfect about the UK , and the weather is one of those things...part of the national character. But really, some folk should just give it a break sometimes and see the good - even the joy - at certain times in life . Now is one of those times where people should allow themselves to feel a little happiness, even if they have much to be gloomy about.

One of the coldest and wettest 'summer' Olympics ever coming up?

The dress rehearsal this evening was AMAZING. Stunned, moved and totally blown away. It is a truly awesome show. Won't say anything else so as not to spoil the surprise. But it was FANTASTIC!

I guess they can't play the whole tennis event on Centre Court! help.gif

Anyone want to guess/forecast how many days the roof will be closed for at least some of the time? Hope it's not going to be a case of wishing the Olympic Stadium had a closing roof too! The GFS charts last night, and the Meto mobile site this morning, suggested snow on the Cairngorms for 1st August... w00t.gif
