Dear Jordan,

Thank you for your email.

The Jet Stream did move north to the north of Scotland, but then it moved south again into Scotland, bringing the cold front with it.

This cold front then got left over southern Scotland when the Jet Stream moved north again, which is why the font weakened over the past few days. The font will reactivate as it moves south tomorrow as the Jet Steam edges south again, so it is a constantly evolving picture with regard to where the Jet Stream is.

It is moving all the time, which is better than 2 weeks ago when it was staying in the same place for weeks on end. I hope this helps and thank you for taking the time to contact the Met Office on this matter.

Kind Regards,

Tim Hill

You missed the crucial part:

It is moving all the time, which is better than 2 weeks ago when it was staying in the same place for weeks on end.

I like the bit about the font and the steam jet.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
