Well, we have now reached the point in the year where widespread overnight frost can start appearing in the models / actually occur.

I believe that we had a similar thread last year. So let's discuss any possible future opportunities for both ground and air frost and of should it happen people can let us all know in this thread! smile.png

Hoping we can get a ground frost here - depending on the dew point and ground temperature, it is certainly possible with temperatures down to 3 or 4C

Am I right in thinking September (2005 or 2007 cannot remember) saw widespread frost down the spine of the country?

Looks like both had frost.. Topcliffe in N Yorks recorded an airfrost in 2005 and Keswick in Cumbria recorded an air frost in 2007.

In September 2010 I had an air frost here down in Devon, 26th September 2010 min: -0.1C. Many months of 2010 had notably low min temps here.

We had a min 1c here on morning of 14th September , I don't know if there was a air frost somewhere in Oxfordshire ?

I'd guess Benson might be a good bet on having recorded one being a well known frost hollow. Not sure without looking it up somewhere though.

Ground frosts are looking likely in the next few days for favoured spots.

I am hoping that we get down to around 5/6c over the next few nights here in Surrey.

Had ice here on the morning of the 28/8/12 so hoping for the same tonight. The afternoon showers have all died away and the wind has dropped significantly so it's looking good down here in the valley.

We've had a few ground frosts already here in the valleys of Mid Wales, current temp is 4.3c and falling so an outside chance of an air frost by morning, and certainly a good chance of another ground frost.

We managed a ground frost in late August, but no air frost yet. In an average year we don't normally see our first air frost until mid October. I suspect we might get down to 3 degrees tonight just enough for another ground frost. Some favoured sheltered spots - frost prone pockets could easily get down to freezing tonight.

We do have low upper air temperatures at present, and under such temps at this time of year it only takes a few lengthy clear breaks to bring a frost risk .

    Ice? Seriously? Frozen puddles etc...?

There were iced-up cars on the other side of Derbyshire. Only until 6-7am though, and certainly no frozen puddles.

Gah, pesky cloud, was down to 1.5c at 2.00am with an air frost looking likely, but then cloud and rain arrived (earlier than expected) and scotched all that. Might be a couple of weeks at least until we get another shot.

It was way too windy last night for the temperature to fall below 6C. Coldest temperature since mid July remains 2.6C in August.

GFS has been consistent in showing Saturday as a potential widespread frost day, including air frost.
