Been trying to get into Bristol today - literally everywhere way out of Yatton is blocked from flooding! Hardly surprising considering 70mm of rain fell overnight but what a last week to have in Britain before going to Spain!

Both the A370 and the railway line have flooding on them at Flax Bourton. Nailsea also experiecing flooding on many roads! Should start to brighten up from the South West now though.

Thank goodness the rain is easing off. I have just moved house and the previous owners were going to have an extension right across the back of the house.

The trench has been dug and foundations laid, but it is now a moat!

I was beginning to think I would need sandbags, but the level is dropping now. Phew!

It's still blooming cold though, with just one fan heater for warmth!

So glad that Autumn is here, though.

My friend living in Bristol said there are plenty of roads flooded. Also i read on twitter one train journey was waiting 2hrs to get into Bristol due to flooding, not a pretty picture in the South West it seems.

Interesting to view the radar from around 10.30 to see how the wind direction changing has brought different rain movement with the main band moving SSW-NNE and blustery showers coming across Somerset into Wiltshire moving W-E.

Possibly more, based on new high-res UKMO-UKV output. Potential for 30-50mm in parts of Somerset/Dorset overnight Tues and on into Weds, but much depends on rate of SE movement of low centre. Nonethless, could prove decidely bothersome on top of problems from last night/this morning. Of course, issue further north (W Midlands, Shropshire, Severn catchment into Glos etc) is the typical 2-3d lag time before river levels peak, so issues there yet to show their full hand.

Some very heavy showers over Bristol currently too Ian, with a torrential downpour over Shirehampton a few mins ago.

The ground over Bristol not really having a chance to dry out as such yet.

Dry and rather sunny and mild start to the day today, although further showers soon expected off the Bristol Channel!

A pleasantly fine start with plenty of sunshine and temperatures around 9C. The webcam is picking up a stream of CB cloud on the Southern horizon. Not so pleasant on Southern Coasts.

In all honesty the weather has not been bad here since late morning yesterday with no rain and the winds not as strong as I was expecting. some achievement with pressure under 990mbs.

Latest NAE not really forecasting any further meaningful rainfall across Sourhern England now, just some showery bursts here and there.

With a bit if luck, it could be an improving picture for this area now!

Yes that really surprised me on the national and local forecasts this evening, a vast difference to the forecasts at lunchtime! Still the potential for flash flooding

from localised downpours though, which will be slow moving as the LOW centre drifts across our region.

As for today, what an enjoyable clean convective day with CBs visible throughout the day towards the South Coast and Bristol Channel directions, then further CBs developed inland through the afternoon as lines of heavy showers moved SW-NE across Somerset into Wiltshire.

Very very very showery day down here in Falmouth today. Countless 2 minute showers interspersed by sunshine. Very weird as back home in the Midlands by showers its usually a couple a day, often none but here there seem to be aplenty here as theres nothing to stop them where as at home we have a weather wall blocking out anything interesting.

Yeah, thats why if the wind is northerly in winter, it will be very snowy, where as midlands would miss out

After yesterdays monsoon like rains here and booming thunderclaps it can only be better today, and so far it is. Plenty of blue sky currently and temperatures near 9C with a light NW wind.

How much rain did you get yesterday pm Gibby? Warminster had just 4.5mm as we only had one downpour and then some moderate showers, meanwhile there was thundery activity over the Salisbury Plain area, the Mendips area and around Swindon.

I'm awaiting the Points West bulletin for an update on the lad who was struck by lightning in Swindon yesterday pm.

Guernsey sunflower maze closes after storm damage

The maze had been made from sunflowers more than 7ft (2.1m) high. The sunflower maze in Guernsey's Saumarez Park has closed after being damaged by strong winds and heavy rain on Sunday. The maze had only been open for five days, but had already been visited by more than 1,500 people.

The organisers of the Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden said fallen flowers have left gaps in the walls and most sunflowers have lost their petals. As a result, they felt they could no longer charge visitors to the maze. Margaret Boucher, volunteer gardener, said: "We were astonished at the impact the maze had and delighted with the number of people who visited both gardens - many for the first time."

The maze will be open to the public while the volunteers work in the garden on Saturday mornings from 09:00 to 12:00 BST.
