Tropical Depression 25W has formed in the southwestern South China Sea, south of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. The depression has sustained winds of 25kts. The LLC is still a bit broad, and land interaction with southern Vietnam will probably prevent it tightening up until it moves over the Gulf of Thailand. Moderate shear will prevent significant strengthening even at this point. 25W is then expected to continue to track generally westwards along the south side of ridging to the north, and potentially cross the Malay Peninsula into the North Indian Ocean. It'll be interesting to see if it makes it, we may have a fairly uncommon basin crosser on our hands!

Well that was a bit dissapointing. 25W moved inland and weakened considerably last night. The remnant low has continued moving northwestwards and will probably not emerge into the Gulf Of Thailand. Even if it does, there probably won't be anything left to re-generate.
