John- I wouldn't rule it out. It's possible as with a little tweak could give us some Snow ( says it quietly).. All to play for anyway and fun model ouput watching to come!

Happy Winter Everyone, may we all get snowfall :)

Prediction: Somewhere in our region will see 30cm of snow and -12c this winter. I'm absolutely convinced we're in for a good one (but then again, I am every year!)

Thank goodness Im not hallucinating. The skies are mostly clear here, but there is a huge circle of darker sky around the moon. Never seen the likes of it before.

That's what I said a halo round the moon

Right at the start of winter ???????

Its not a halo though is it ? If anything its the opposite. I think its obviously to do with atmpospheric conditions, but struck me as very unusual.

Field around the moon, or better know as a halo, is a weather phenomena that occurs when clouds or the air surrounding is crystalised (ice crystals), light from the moon bounces of the crystals and form the 'field' you see. Related closely before snowfall but every time I've seen it no snow has fallen sad.pnghttp://home.hiwaay.n.../moon/moonring/

as you say normally caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere

and light reflects off it

nice sight though

although i cannot see it

It's something to do with lots of ice crystals in the air at altitude refracting the light from the moon and creating this effect, also seen as a bad omen, rain or snow, spirits in the air, some say it represents a special spiritual night though.

Can see it very clearly here like in that pic.
