We've had lots of requests for a split in the north of England regional thread, so here's an attempt at following that feedback.

    I'm so helpful I did a map.

This is the new Region 2 Forum!

DPs stubbornly low around Durham as that front approaches....

The sky has gone from grey to white here - a sign that the front is getting closer?

3.3C at Neil Bradshaw's site at South Shields with DP of 0.5, so looks a bit too marginal there, although if any heavy precipitation gets over to the North East then evaporative cooling could make the temperatures more favourable.

Are you expecting snow initially Alza?

Yes, but if its wet it might just speed up the thaw. I'm expecting it to be rain after while though, judging on the reports from the high ground of NW England.

DPs are still below freezing around and east of the A1, not sure whether the wind just isn't scouring out the colder surface air, or whether some colder upper air is hanging on in there...going to be a close call I think...

Good to be back on the proper regional thread!

My head says rain/sleet here in Durham, with possibility of snow on the back end of the low. By then, though, all the existing snow will have been washed away! :(

The snow has dropped off the washing line now, indicating the milder temperatures.

1.3/-1.1 Durham, more interesting Lanehead under the PPN in upper Weardale has now dropped to -0.1/-0.7 under the PPN so I can only assume they must be under snow now....

Very close! When the precipitation gets going the temperature will hopefully fall back to be roughly the same as dew point, but even that will be marginal.

The borders got sleet this morning, even on high ground, so that doesn't bode well for us.

Expecting to see some falling snow in Leeds transiently soon. Not much to shout about, and gven the sleetyness on the Borders we may not get anything! Not to worry though, fun and games just around the corner?

I hope it just rains and clears the ice away ready for a potential snowy week next week (if we don't get snow today - rather have rain than sleety mess)

The front seems to be grinding to a halt over the Pennines.

    • Wet March so far with more rain for the rest of the month, but hints of more settled weather early April

It's been a wet March for much of the UK, with well above average rainfall, though the Northern & Western Isles have been drier than average. Despite a colder drier respite on Monday, staying generally unsettled to see out the rest of the month. But hints of some drier weather in early April. Read the full update here
