It's a part of the World I know quite well as I used to work for a company in Waterlooville, unfortunately I don't think it will be the only problem area over the next 36 hours :(

When I was out earlier I saw plenty of raging streams and drainage ditches at brimming point. Should've taken my camera out with me!

A lot of surface water on the roads, take care.

The River Pinn running through campus is very high indeed today; one of my students living in halls that border the river was a bit concerned!

Went out in a brief lull a moment ago to look at the weir at the side of our car park. Never seen it so deep and in full torrent:

Nice photo Coast, quite a similar scene to here. I do remember back in June the streams running very high, though not as high as today!

Currently at work in Uckfield, pic is the River Uck rising quite well. Still another 10ft or so before in reaches the levels during the floods of 2000. From experience, it only needs one of the sluices to get blocked or closed further downstream, before Lewes, and the water can back up extremely quickly.

The river is normally only about 6ft wide at this point and in a 10ft cutting, the top of the river bank is about 4ft below the current level.

Currently at work in Uckfield, pic is the River Uck rising quite well.

To people in the area it's not so long ago that Uckfield had major flooding (2000) and further floods in 2010. I think the sign by the River Uck has been 'modified' at points over the years to reflect what people really think of it...

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
