Once any snow begins on Saturday it will take a long time or a heavy fall for it to settle IMO as the ground hasn't

been cold for a month.

Hope I do see a rain to snow event here, there's something very pleasing to the eye to see rain turning to snow, that's quite a rare thing, usually it's snow to rain and that's painful to see!

I have seen it absolutely slashing it down with rain before just for it to turn to snow and then have an inch of snow on the floor before you know it.

Dont let it fool you. Once you have heavy snow, it cools the ground and soaks up the water very quickly.

Link to the forecast here if you want to view it :)

Just watched it - what an absolute pro he is - even mentioned latest charts he'd just seen, which i guess weren't part of the prepared forecast.

Interesting week ahead now it seems.

Show off! :D

I really need to do some work but I cannot drag myself off this bleedin' site!

If the GFS falls into line with the ECM do we all think that this snow is a done deal then? Still only Wednesday isn't it, so I am trying to keep calm atm but a lot can happen in 96 hours can't it.

That's about right roughy, although perhaps a tad colder possibility at the weekend.

I wonder how long it will be before everyone starts to panic buy and the supermarket shelves will be empty?

Seems a lot of excitement going in here, I have to say that down here on the coast (IMBYism apologies, but that's where it's at), I am not expecting to see the white stuff until the weekend low clears. The position & track (as already mentioned) are key, and right now I still feel it's too far north for us.

We shall see, but from a historic point of view this type of scenario just doesn't work well for us down here.

Lets get some cold air dug in first, then things can turn interesting.

OK so now you can carry on ramping..

Latest FAX suggests rain turning to snow across the Cotswolds and down into Oxfordshire midday Saturday;

This pattern should then sink South/South Eastwards Saturday afternoon.

Coming home about an hour ago in Swindon, and there is very thick fog. Visibility down to 50m in places, and feeling a lot colder. Saturday looks interesting here, I guess we just ahve to wait for the models to firm up now :)

Cant see any settling snow at low levels. The heavy rain and warm ground (so to speak) will put pay to that. Also the PPN will be light when it turns to snow.

Maybe.....maybe not.

If u think back over the last 24-36 hours the forecast for Saturday has v slowly upgraded. Who's to say the upgrades won't continue?

Just a thought.

To be honest the shortwave activity is still not sorted around southern greenland after the weekend. All to play for including a flattening of the pattern.
