She's not a "coldie" then!

But seriously yeh, the amount of snow will be disruptive...I'd give a rough guess that places E of Wigan, Blackburn, Warrington (inclusive) etc. and much of Cumbria could get quite a dumping over the Mon event. Well, that's a complete guess cos it will change, but that's what often happens in these situations in my experience, but as I say this will change!

How about Merseyside and West Lancashire, I work in Skelmersdale and got stuck there in 2010, they normally do ok for snow

Dec 2010 was nothing short of a properly extreme event. This event looks more marginal for extreme western areas...that being said, a shift of the the colder air could potentially have places such as W Lancs and Skem in the firing line. Best advice is to keep checking forecasts I suppose. Atm however, I'd say they are at low risk from disruptive snow i.e. it won't settle much or it'll be sleety/wet snow.

Similar sort of places that got hit in Feb 2012 I suppose.

Was just about to say NW is not looking hopeful. Putting Diane's words in context - did she also utter things like 'hills' 'well inland' 'possibly' 'potentally' and such words??

Not sure , but I've just seen her at the Chemist with her prescription for Prozac.

Very similar situation to 04 Feb 2012 guys, I did very well that day 9cms, but was so uncertain right up to the event, and the snow started at 1pm warmest part of the day

so think how you all did snow wise that day

I know...Southport didn't get anything too! (from what I've been told)

Can anybody see anybody's location in their profile by the way? It all went t*ts up when Netweather got overwhelmed the other day for me...

I know what you mean...because most of the time on forecasts when they say west they actually mean Wales and the south west, but when they say North West, they mean W Scotland, NI and possibly Cumbria the majority of the time! I don't really see the North West of England mentioned here - oh well, they like to ignore us on national forecasts lol.

On the odd occaison, I hear Lancashire, Gtr Manchester and Merseyside mentioned. Yes, ON THE ODD OCCASION lol.

I use to take them as gospel many years ago, dont even bother looking at them now

to sum up the next 96hrs

cold to very cold possibility of a -7 somewere tomorrow night

plus a couple of decent snow oppertunities

after 96hrs FI not worth commenting on but if you believe the UKMO staying cold and more snow chances

And the latest fax chart for monday the mild sector has done one....for now

Some good news wrt to the snow event early next week, ECM op although nowhere near outlier territory was slightly milder than the mean, -6 850hpa line only a hundred miles further West but that might make all the difference.

EDH0-72.GIF?11-0

EDIT : probably more like 50 miles but still good, particularly in conjuction with good 72 FAX and good reports from MOGREPS and Fergie's forecast on BBC points West which i watched live.

9.30 weather update on BBC News 24 didn't look that inspiring for snow on Monday over much of the region.

There was plenty of snow on display but mainly down the central spine of the country and eastwards, the usual set up really.

Still time for changes but looking at the forecast, we need a westwards correction to bring the majority of the NW in the firing line.

If it misses us we have a point to prove as a region... and that is, that we don't get snow.. we know that but I think other areas think we just feel sorry for ourselves here.

ps I got no snow here in February 2012. Usually Backtrack gets more snow than I do, so if he didn't get it.. here has no chance!

Is it just or has there been an upgrade for us on this run?

Nope if the 18z verifies it's very much a Manchester eastwards event. West of the M6 (me included) it's far too modified and marginal; especially with that flow off a warm Irish sea and the low elevation involved!
