Local BBC forecast is going for further snow early tomorrow morning but could we see some more tonight?

The flow tonight will be very slack and the pressure will be rising, but they seem to be expecting a trough around dawn (and I think the earlier NAE suggested this), hence the forecast for a few more showers. Tonight should see the remaining showers die out, but there are a few decent ones left in the North Sea so it would be nice to see one more this evening!

Isnt it unusual for such systems to end up further north and east though?

Does any model have it further n and e?

The radar is looking increasingly promising, I can see things falling into place for a surprise (moderate) snowfall this evening before we lose the onshore flow just after midnight.

They have 3-4 inches a couple of miles away in Middlesbrough - look at page 2 of this thread! You must have been very close to seeing a significant fall of snow today. I think Thornaby must sit on some kind of underground hot spring or something!

That's what I mean about the underground hot spring! Most other parts of the NE seem to have had at least 5cm now.

How much have you got lying Alza? I'd say about 2 inches here depending on the surface up to 3 maybe, i'm terrible at judging depths though haha

5cm here.

Exactly the same here, quite a bit less on the pavements mind.

Yer i'd say 5cm on cars/tops of walls/grass and less on the paths, but they have been walked on I live on a main road and you can see the grass on opposite side appearing where cars have melted it.

Not sure if this has been done already but the Pennine ski season has restarted with Weardale running their tows today, planning tomorrow and Yad Moss nr Alston running tomorrow. Safe to say most Pennine skiers want 2009/10 again but even 2008 would be acceptable, OK actually I want late 70's early 80's winters, it's just not a hard winter until they get the tanks in!

You're nearly right Alza. There is a large Magma lake slowly rising to the surface in the Stockton/Thornaby area

-2.4c at 1820, on top of 5cms of snow. Not bad at all.

Very cold, but not snowy is how I'd sum up the next 2 days, before a return to potentially wet times. That wet will be snow, but how much is the question! It's lovely to have the question of little or lots of snow :)

Rivers and lakes freezing over the next few days anyone?

Copious snow.

Can't believe a few people in here are moaning about Friday's charts! Spare a moment for us in the snowless west for a change, guys!

I don't give a monkies about the West, I live in the North East and seeing as this is a North East thread then we can moan all we like! :p

As it happens, the ECM does look a little better for us in the NE than the GFS/UKMO in terms of hoping to catch a bit of that frontal band, its a little marginal albeit but I suppose we don't have much to lose really.

Should be a cold one tonight though, I think the easterly flow is now all but cut off so lets hope for clear skies and a very hard frost!

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall.
