1mm rain =1cm snow,

15mm rain which is forecast for Frome = 15cm snow(if powder snow) if wet snow 3-1 ratio

Sorry if posted already but I tweeted Ian to see what was likely to happen beyond the weekend. He replied 'we are watching developments early next week'. It gets better.

Wish I could like that 100 times!

What regions do you reckon Will do well in the southwest?

On Friday, everywhere except Cornwall should see snow falling, with most places likely to see a certain degree of settling snow.

As Friday progress', some of the snow could turn back to rain from the SW. This all depends on the exact track of the front, and how quick the cold air can undercut.

I currently see areas north of Somerset seeing snow all day Friday before turning to rain Friday night everywhere apart from some areas of the north Cotswolds.

This just by realistic view though, this could still change.

Lets hope more of our region can keep snowfall and snowcover longer.

How long is a piece of string, alex. sorry.gif

That is, we can't yet fathom the unfathomable.

Stand by your regionals on Friday is the best advice I can afford.

Right...what's my chances of seeing any significant now on Friday and if yes what sort of time we looking at? Please x

Going by GFS 06z (if it panned out that way exactly) you'd be seeing 36hrs straight of snowfall from 3am Friday morning of varying intensity and at least 10cm of snow (that snow depth being conservative!) with more snow to come over the following days!

(But don't take my word for it LOL)

06z NMM has the PPN as snow in Gloucs., Wiltshire and Dorset, and sleet/rain for Bristol/Somerset southwestwards by dawn Friday.

Hard to judge whet would happen as Friday progress' though, but could have been a better start.

Lets hope both the NAE & NMM show a better angle and westward correction later.

Can someone post a link please on how I find how much above sea level I am. Cheers

I use Google Earth - just hover over your location with the mouse cursor and the height will be shown at the bottom in metres.

I'm sure there are other methods online though.

Get your Met Office local forecast and it will tell you ASL on there

I'm a long-term lurker as I have nothing of interest to add - but I just want to say I'm so excited!!! I'm even going to venture into the loft to locate and prepare the fleet of sledges (which will guarantee hours of rain).

Hudsons field?

I know I'min Stroud, but pass by frequently!

Here are Gibbys thoughts, based on yesterday's 12z suite.

Of course, he has also produced a detailed analysis on the 00z output as well, which you can read further down the page, on the link attached.

Yeah, could do. I'm just stating what the NMM shows at face value.

Where's Ian with an update? :p

So a massive downgrade now then and not snow just rain and sleet for somerset. Damn, knew it was to good to be true.

Guess i should look out the window nearer the time...
