givingsome accumulations even to low levels by evening, especially across parts of Cheshire. Maximum temperature 0 °C

That sounds like a forecast aimed entirely at low levels.

I'm fairly confident that it's warm air from the low pressure system being forced ahead of the main front by the rather stiff SEly breeze. I think the correct term is instability.

Yeah probably, summer storm setup in reverse. Forcing because of the topography of Wales and the Pennines is probably another factor, something which could cause the main band to intensify further though that's wishful thinking most likely.

Definitely seeing a rotation now on the main band of precip. Looks like the pivot point is somewhere around Dublin. This is really going to be knife edge stuff as to how far N this whole band gets!!

Yes it will, south wales has a lot of low level areas hence the rain.

It will turn increasingly to snow there even at low levels.

Just reading on another forum that its raining in South west wales and Bristol.

Seemed to start as rain for most of SW Wales and England and then readily turned to sleet then snow

Do you think it will get to us mate.

I honestly think it will. My concern is how long it hangs around and then drifts off back south

Just had some heavy snow here lasting about 10 mins, backed off again now but still going.

Yeah that band certainly is being stubborn. I also noticed there are more small bands cropping up in front of and behind the main block of precip over N Wales

I hope that's a good thing.

I'm hoping it means that the whole front is intensifying as it trudges slowly Nward (ever the optimist :D )

BBC reckon its going to be knocking on the door of Merseyside by 8am, but doesn't get here until way after midday.

I take it that this band will give us heavier snow than the dandruff that's blowing around now?

My lampost watching has revealed light snow blowing around in the wind. Defo looks like there is precipitation pepping up ahead of the main band now. Please god, let us get something decent out of this! *looking for the praying icon*

I'm sure you'll get something Loubie! Been snowing here since 5pm yesterday evening but totals are rather modest, about 3.5cm of lying snow currently but still trying to snow!

I know, Dave. Would be just my luck that it will stall before it gets to me lol. I'm not giving up hope though ;)
