The gritters were still gritting the roads around here. It just wasting it. Why would they do that? Its not even below freezing or snowing here for god sake! Why not they send gritters to the east of our region? People here are just dumb sometimes.

I could complain to the council but nah.

Tell you what guys. Having just been out and bout the area, If the heavy stuff hits here it could be bad. I miss-judged the depths. It's around 4inches or more quite widely with plenty of deeper areas. Despite only having dusting's overnight and today, the roads are terrible and that's with numerous gritters out and about.

Never mind the nonsense in the south with 1 few centimeters causing chaos warning OTT news coverage, it we get in on the action, a lot of areas round here could be seriously cut off.

We got in on the 2009 event here.. was pretty damn harsh. Took us an hour to get home that morning instead of the usual 6 min drive as half the towns roads were cut off.

send to the south of the region then biggrin.png

I'm hoping that snow gets blown over the Pennines, its not uncommon, Ive known it to happen in the past. That snow band is making painfully slow progress though. Whats gonna happen at the end of the week? Metcheck were saying another Atlantic system was gonna move in and create "the mother of all breakdowns" I truely hope so!!! Snow been very dissapointing here over this cold spell

keep your eyes on southern ireland. It's slow moving, but it's been slowly building from the sw..lets see whether we end up under it, its moving ne..time will tell.

for an easterly, its been extremely poor in temperatures. Every night before the snow came, it was cloudy, temperature would barely get to freezing. In the grand scheme of things the snow fall we had was extremely poor. This winter promised to deliver much, and it did deliver, it delivered a very poor winter even with all the best scenarios, it still really failed.

We have a good 2/3 weeks after this if it breaks down, meto uncertain but think mid feb for cold again. Overall a really poor winter that delivered not much of anything to the vast majority of the NW...even the easterly was poor..

The precipitation east of Nottingham looks like it wants to come here. moving at a reasonable pace now it seems too.

thats why they have put grit down earlier on today. Plus they go off what the road temperature is not what the air temp is. No point putting the grit down once it has already frozen.

And they have highways depots in the east of lancashire which they will have gritters out to cover that area of our region.

Officially looking good again now.

Eno Equator was in full ramping mode on NW Tonight talking disruptive snow closely followed by the national forecast including disruption on trans Pennine routes.

It's coming.

Just not near us! wink.png

Much better than last winter for here, no snow except a half hours worth in december 2011 that melted before it hit the floor, this year four days with lying snow and snow on each of those days albeit very light on two of them. But yeh a poor winter given the synoptics, ie strat warming, sea surface temps, ice melt etc

Taken from the BBC Weather site. This is the midnight image, later images do show some light patchy snow over other areas but expect the main snowfall to occur over the Pennines and into the East.

We had very little lying snow here at all despite best part of 20 hours worth of falling snow over the last week.

There is no cover whatsoever left after today's thaw.
