Still plenty incoming which seems to be intensifying as it reaches us.

Orographic effect then....ramping up as it hits the hills. It does seem generally lighter now I think. Currently at 10 hours of non stop snow though now!!!

Consett looks great, it's still a bit drippy here. Rain in Sunderland apparently!

Rothbury looks a hundred times more accessible than Consettshire

I'm glad its a cracking snow event for some because quite frankly I think its just plain awful out there, nothing accumulating apart from slight slushiness on east facing roofs, the intensity is not consistent, the snow is wet and we are getting melting.

At least lets have some heavy proper falling snow with strong winds just for the visual side of things if rather than for anything settling.

It has certainly turned less wet here, so I expect things to improve for you in the next couple of hours. Having said that, the intensity is easing of here now.

Just checked MET O and we now have heavy snow forecast from 2100 to 0500 so hopefully this will produce.

Trying to hold on to any glimmer of hope, but taking it all with a very big dose of salt.

The high-res models are showing an intense trough for later this evening Snowmaggedon so wouldn't give up just yet.

It will be a trough or rain thought lol.

Despite the showers being of snow its a bit of a waste as the snow cover is melting with huge puddles everywhere, just a raw unpleasant day here.

Same here.. My little girl has however said -

"Mammy why don't you dry the garden with a towel"

She is desperate for snow.

Had to chuckle

Fantastic though this is for upland areas, and here although there is slushiness, it's still lying and accumulating, this will, I think, go down as a "what if" event. If DPs and temps had been that BIT lower I honestly think this could have matched 2010 for depths.

If you read yesterday's reports from further south, they all reported sleet at first before snow arrived in low lying areas. You will get snow as temp falls later. Another 12 hours or so of snowfall! How much will Consett have then?
