3 seperate storms here this evening, widespread storms over most of Wales too.

Some of you will see flashes, but not as widespread as it's been over Wales. Around midnight probably the best time to look out.

Yep all gone here now also, still a very enjoyable cold spell, certainly the best since December 2010.

The biggest snowfall in years for this location on Friday 18th, when we saw nearly 17cms of level snow and an afternoon temp of -3. The snow in the morning was particularly heavy averaging 3cms an hour between 9 and 12. Sunday 20th saw further snow, around 8cms extra lasting around 15 hours! Maximum depth I measured on Monday evening was 24cms on our bin outside!

Further smaller falls between Monday and Wednesday. Bit frustrated on Wednesday as the showers that moved up from the southeast kept dying out over brum and/or just missing us! The very heavy shower in the evening which hit western and central brum missed us by no more than 1 mile, very annoying!

We also saw 6 consecutive ice days Friday to Wednesday. Slight thaw on Thursday, then a further bigger thaw friday. In terms of the Friday evening weather event, for me the writing was on the wall when I saw lunchtime temps close to 2 Celsius, against a forecast of 0-1 Celsius. In such a marginal situation we couldn't afford to temps to be higher than expected. More of the cold air than expected had been mixed out, so rather than all snow we saw the wintry mix instead. Still after the previous week we couldn't really complain!

Yeah, it was a really great cold spell. I'd give it 9 out 10. Half a point lost for lack of clear skies and very low temperatures, quarter of a point lost for the sleety/rainy breakdown and quarter of a point lost for that first Monday when it turned to rain. Really trivial/picky stuff in comparison to what did happen. Everything else hit the spot perfectly though

Friday 18th was very cold and had a biting south east wind to boot, but apart from that it certainly wasn't as brutal as dec 2010 in terms of the depth of cold. For me dec 2010 was the most brutal cold I've experienced in this country since jan 87. It lasted longer than that spell also! This cold spell was more notable for its snowiness. In terms of depth of snow it was much better for this particular location than December 2010, when we consistently kept missing the big snow events and catching the leftovers only, we didn't ever have more than 12 cms of lying snow at any stage of that spell.

Very little snow now remaining outside. The only places where it has survived is where it was piled to one side when clearing driveways etc.
