Well... a pleasant surprise this morning... a fairly light covering here in the town, but all nice and white, so I'm not complaining!

I doubt we'll get more at the moment, but you never know...

So far that band is snow at South Gyle. Snow in SW Edinburgh too.

Well it was trying to snow in Kemnay at 9am, but barely noticeable (the biting cold wind was noticeable). A bit more snow in Kintore on my way through but really just small drifts in the gutters etc. Dyce seems to have had a little more and it was snowing briefly not long ago so looking white on the roads and paths at least. The main band of precipitation seems to be crossing the country to our south so not expecting much more unless we get some showers coming in behind.

The temperature at 9am in Dyce was 3.3/-3.6 so not sure if anything we see will be rain or snow as I haven't fathomed out the whole temp/dewpoint relationship for snow yet.

Here’s a quick, early update on the weather for the remainder of today.

The heavy, squally snow showers that affected many parts overnight have now largely cleared. However, a band of sleet and snow is currently sitting over the northwest (from Argyll to Moray at 0800), and this will move southeastwards to affect central, southern and eastern

Scotland during the next few hours. This has the potential to give further snow accumulation of 2-5 cm, locally 10 cm in places across Argyll and the west Highlands, with 2-5cm possible across areas to the north of central belt (through Stirling, Perth and Kinross, Fife) and across the Southern Uplands, before it clears early this afternoon.

The Amber Warning for Snow expires at 0900, and there are no plans to extend this. The Yellow Warning for Snow was due to expire at 1000, but this has been extended until 1200 to reflect the timing of the band of sleet and snow moving across the country.

Following the clearance, the showers will spread into the north and northeast but these are likely to fall as rain at low levels. Sleet/snow may persist in parts of northeast

Scotland for a time during this afternoon. Central and southern areas may see the odd shower but are likely to be mainly dry.

Winds are currently gusting to 30-40mph in the south of

Scotland, but are stronger and gusting to 40-50mph in the north. This maintains the likelihood of blizzard conditions at times this morning, with drifting, particularly on higher ground where the winds are strongest.

Steady snow in East Kilbride for more than an hour now, heavy at times. Not sure how much it is adding to the existing cover as it is pretty wet stuff, but the roads are covered again where they had been cleared. I imagine rain/sleet is washing away the cover back at home.

Well the sun is out and melted the cover from last night (about 1.5 cm), and temps are right up. Anything that falls before this evening will be rain here in Perth at least.
