    hi

My Davis packs up recording other than the summary for the last 3 mornings around 0200-0330. . Today I was anticipating it and managed to 'kick' start it at 0700.

It loses the data from its last report until the time it is restarted each time. The summary page runs okay but its the part that puts it into memory and produces the charts that stops?

    .

Anyone any ideas what may be the matter and how I can solve it please?

    many thanks for any help

    John

Sounds something like I had a while ago. It may be the super capacitor that charges the battery (somehow) that has burst - you get new ones for about £10-20.

Have a look at the circuit board and see if you can see anything that may have burst or leaked - if you can thats it.

It sounds like it's running out of power when the capacitor has discharged.

Are you not seeing a low battery warning?

First thing would be to try a new one anyway, it's a CR123 you can buy cheapest online - not so easy to find in average shop.

    thanks to you both.

I did wonder if the battery was starting to 'go' so I'll look at that first, although there is no warning showing. But as RR suggests I'll also take a look and see if anything seems to have leaked.

    thanks again both of you

    regards

    John

Hopefully the battery but I've also replaced the caps on all My Davis equipment. I don't think the first VP has that problem just the vP2

Yep, had one go on my wireless anemometer when it was only 10 months old.

Agree that it sounds like a battery issue in John's case though, with the current cloudy conditions the supercap wont be charging much meaning overnight when it depletes and tries to use the battery its not getting anything.

In the past when Ive had a failing battery it rarely says so on the console. The problem with CR123 batteries is they have a rapid dropoff in voltage at the end of their life, so a battery can be almost dead but still show 2.8v instead of 3.0v and the station not realise its on its way out.

    further to the above

    Continuing Davis problems

For some weeks I have been having to take out the input (I think?) lead on my envoy to get it to load all the data on to my pc and thence my web site.

Even then I noticed that the graphs for weekly, monthly annual data on my web site graphs had ‘stopped’ at about 15/16 January 2013.

On 10 March at 0700 all data other than the continuous summary data also stopped. Nothing I have tried has changed this. The summary continues to be fed into my pc and then to my web site page but nothing else. I have changed the battery in the equipment outside and those in the envoy at the side of the pc but no improvement. The only thing I have not done yet is dismantle the envoy and take out the data logger itself and the plug into the back of the pc and reinsert.

I am sending an e mail to Davis to ask if they can help.

Have any of you Davis experts got any suggestions how I might get the equipment to start to function again. Like I have said the summary works fine, T, Td, P, rainfall etc etc?

Many thanks if anyone can help.

    John

That will upset the time and date on the envoy have you checked the time and date?

yep each day and corrected it

the next step when I get a chance is to open up the envoy, take the other lead out of the pc and unplug the board, then re do and see if that works?

Did you clear the data logger at the same time?

Does the data display in weatherlink and if you start the real time bulletin does it display.

Well your data is there since it's in the summery so the computer is receiving it. Corrupt wlk file? You could always try moving or naming the file and see if the things come back to normal. The wlk is located in c:\weatherlink\"station name" and should have the name 2013-03.wlk and todays date. You'll need to close weatherlink before renaming it or moving the file. I'm presuming you've installed weatherlink to the c drive.

    hi Pit

Just back from an interesting weekend in Keswick supposedly fell walking, I did manage to get almost 800ft up on Sunday! Impressive drifting snow in the valley on Saturday let alone any higher.

    re the Davis

Disconnected both the power and data logger link, taking the data logger out, leaving for 10 minutes and replacing with new batteries - result= data now to my pc but both numerical and graph form but data in that period not found. On my web station still stukc on 10 March for weekly. Monthly onwards is last year as that has never restarted!!

Not had chance yet to look at what Davis finally sent me-just going to look now.

Much as I expected do what I've already done-so I seem stuck?

It's John Close weatherlink Open explorer double click on the C drive double click on the weatherlink folder double click on the station name then right click on the 2013-03.wlk and rename it. Restart weatherlink and see what happens. If it works it's a corrupted wlk file.

Doing that had no effect on either data showing on my pc = currently updating as it should nor on my web page which shows the weekly data stuck on 10 March?

John, have you emailed Davis support? They have helped me with my weatherlink troubleshooting (for Mac) in the past.

    support at davisnet.com

with @ instead of at and no spaces.

    or this help page

    thanks chio

yes I e mailed them twice before I got a reply which suggested I did what I have done. I will have a look at that help page to see if anyone has had a similar problem. Always before it has cleared it up but not this time. Data is now stored on my pc but it will not download on the weekly graph on to my web site. Still stuck on 10 March.
