Wind direction has veered ENE so Perth should see more and heavier showers this afternoon.

Heavy shower ongoing, starting as graupel but larger fluffy flakes now.

Current temperature +2.5C/+0.2C so not lying on roads/pavements.

Now very heavy large flakes.

Will the temp dip here HS after about 3pm?

Best shower of the day. Wind seems to have picked up. Extremely heavy snow. Can't even see the tops of the blades of grass now. Not seen this for a while.

It will OTR but slowly until after sunset then more markedly. Could be an interesting evening. A very happy Mothers Day to you OTR.

Great stuff.

Problem is, you're stealing all our snow....just light flurries here since 9am. ;-)

Yeah, showers have been mostly missing here. Had one just now that left a dusting but a line just to the north has really been hogging most of the snow for the last few hours.

Looks like that will continue this afternoon, looking mostly dry here now for a few hours as per the radar, at least the sun is out though! Incredible how warm it feels despite snow flakes blowing about!

3cm of snow at 09hr. Still covered but pavements/roads now bare. Min air temp -1.2C.

Heavy Large hail now (8mm size)! What a noise that made.

Went to Kirkcaldy after 9am. A good inch lying on the outskirts. I think the showers have been heaviest near the Forth this morning.

Temperature keeps fluctuating about here, now up to 4C in the sun but going to drop like a stone when the next shower hits.

Shame it wasn't a month or two earlier, just think of the totals we'd all have!

Glad to see most of us are getting some snow today!! We had a light covering this morning but didn't last long once the sun came out. What's the chances of snow down my way at the coast after dark that may be substantial enough to give a decent covering? Not expecting it but would be a nice surprise :)

HIgh, after a lull around 4-7pm convection around the Forth is likely to peak again with a streamer developing and convection behind persisting right through into tomorrow afternoon in the southeast.

Part of the reason for the relatively good intensity retention inland and the tendency for soft hail showers near the coast (had another one just there) that slight cap in convection:

sound-EastLothian-06.png

Much less pronounced and more conducive to big flakes inland:

sound-Renfrewshire-06.png

and further north:

sound-Aberdeenshire-06.png

The good news- this cap is going to become much less pronounced and higher up as the afternoon and evening progresses:

A skew-t that absolutely screams snow.

Supposed to be -4 in glasgow tonight. With convection I suppose it could be interesting

My mum's having Happy Mother's Hay instead - an animal sanctuary in Norfolk had the bright idea of offering the online purchase of a bale of hay for their horses for £4.00 so instead of choccies (she always has lots she buys herself and isn't meant to have any anyway), she has a bale of hay in a snowy field in East Anglia* with some grateful nags chomping away :)

*uncle in Norfolk reports lots of snow last night and today

Thanks LS. I was wondering why there was so much hail mixed in this morning. The showers (what little there are) do seem to be more of snow. Fingers crossed for later.
