Certainly cold out there -0.4c here at 1650hrs in normally balmy Crail...and with a 20mph onshore easterly breeze. My coldest reading for the whole winter is only -1.9c.

All dripping is over. Icicles have now replaced. Again, long time since we seen them. Snow is drifting around again. Wind seems to have increased.

Yeah some of last shower has remained here too. Obviously past the warmest part of the day so anything that does fall will likely stick now tease.gif

And I guess i'm about to test that theory as something about to hit and it looks as if it might be quite big again

last shower that just fell is the first shower that has settled all day without melting so its looking good for later if we can get more showers here

Really REALLY cold up here today. At 4pm it was -1.6C and it's now -2.3C. Cold as the winter has been up here, we haven't had any daylight temperatures as cold as that. It's really rather impressive :)

I've noticed that until today the cap on convection was forecast by GFS to extend down to the 800hPa level, but in reality, over East Lothian it has been firmly restricted to 700hPa upwards:

This is probably why we've seen a lot more convection over eastern Scotland than predicted.

LS, is Edinburgh and Lothians in the firing line for tonight's forecasted streamer event??

It would appear to be, I'm in Fife and getting the train back over tomorrow morning (just in case you wondered why JoeShmoe and I were reporting totally different conditions) but the Forth area looks to be in the firing line from about 8pm onwards if the NMM is to be believed. Lines of heavy convection forecast for Fife, the Lothians and across the central belt 10pm-1am, with heavy showers generally tracking a south Fife-West Lothian type line, deviating at points to a more Dundee-Perth line or tracking into the Borders, right through to 3pm, getting quite far west at points too. More general convection continuing further north, particularly the Angus coast and Moray Firth.

My own guess would be 1-2 inches (more) widely from Dundee southwards, with totals perhaps similar to that through the central belt as far west as Renfrewshire and with certain hotspots seeing upwards of 4 inches, perhaps even 8-10 inches in some favoured location.

That last shower stuck no problem as underneath is pure ice as the last shower melted and froze solid. First time this winter that I have had a below freezing reading at this time of day. Sods law! -0.5/-3.7c/NE.

Anyone know what it's like Kirriemuir direction? Son just on his way up there now as not confident about getting up there early tomorrow morning. Whole crew has been called out as they have digs up there Monday-Friday.

I knew it would be pointless but just cleared the drive and can see a heavy snow shower moving in against the sunset. Lovely! 1 to 2 inches here drifting to double that!
