GFS is probably wrong, differs massively from the NAE. Another run or two required but I'm amazed we still don't have consensus about the weather in 24 hours time !

So would I considering its due to hit Midlands in about 12 hours blum.gif

MetO really downplaying this ?

BF5CSnXCAAEkMnH.jpg

GFS, NAE, even UKMO predicting WAY more precipitation than that much more widespread. It makes no sense. The only explanation is that they expect alot of it to be rain.

Impressive PPN totals by saturday evening, one word come to mind..... Eerrrrrrrrr BURIED blum.gif

IF it's snow...and you are slightly further south than myself and Connor...dont get too expectant until it's happening. We've been let down in the past. Staffordshire around 73metres - around 239ft.

That's good to know. I never bother looking at the UKMO. But NAE is high-res.

Can anyone with NW Extra update us on how the NMM is looking please ?

Need a shift further northeast for Nottingham to really get hit, so close to the sweetspot but but not close enough at the moment, nothing worse than to hear Birmingham 40 miles to the west is getting blasted while us in the East are struggling to get a flake

Kmanx, that's just for Friday though, see day at top left. We have Saturdays snow on top of that which if anything will be heavier with colder uppers moving south.

Hope it's not Cannock! I'm moving house tomorrow so don't want too much snow before tomorrow evening.

I'll try for Oswestry

Thought of Shrewsbury (but realised the snow shield might come into play!!)

Buxton is a shoe in for a foot I reckon. Stoke on Trent probably won't be far behind...probably 20-25cm there.

Please please let Northampton get a pasting. Yes, we were lucky to have the heavy snow last week when other places very near had little or nothing, but it only lasted a few hours and melted by early afternoon. Now we get a chance of really heavy persistent precipitation. Please let it be mostly snow and not marginal (ie. sleet...yeuch!!)

Looking forward to this...99% sure that Shrewsbury vs Oldham might not be on on Saturday, if it is good luck to anyone from Oldham trying to get to and from Shrewsbury for it!

Look well placed, but until its falling, you never know.

Somewhere in the peaks or staffs moorlands will likely win it.. I will go for a Leek, I mean for Leek with 26cm (180m ASL)

Saying that if we get the predicted heavy snow overnight tonight, it will probably not be a good idea for me to commute into London, although they are forecasting sleet by tomorrow afternoon only for it to return to heavy snow tomorrow night. Our weather makes it impossible to plan anything doesn't it. The last thing I want to do is be stranded in London on a Friday night, but at the same time I don't want to not go into work if the snow doesn't materialise.

I'm not convinced by this yet. Metoffice happy to hold the snow further N&W aswell. Still mentioning blizzards in the text forecast for the NW on Saturday.

NW forecast...

Friday:

Widespread snowfall continuing, often persistent and sometimes heavy. Continuing risk of blizzards and blowing snow on high ground as winds remain strong. Very cold with a significant wind chill. Maximum Temperature 3 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Further snow and blizzards on Saturday, easing somewhat through the day. Sunday and Monday becoming mainly dry but still bitterly cold in a fresh easterly wind

I think by the time the precipitation heads south across the East Midlands on Saturday it'll be much lighter anyway. Somewhere between Sheffield and Powys getting deepest fall for me. Possibly high ground of NE Wales and the southern Pennines/Peak District.

As for the Midlands region I'd plump for S-O-T up towards Leek.
