A slight dusting overnight here, that's at least the 12th day in a row with falling snow and the 11th day in a row of complete snow cover. I've lost count of the number of days we've had falling snow in March, but I think more than half of the days in the month have now seen snow falling in some form or other.

Really chilly here this morning at -7c with broken cloud. Spoke to my sowing contractor yesterday to say that we plan to try and start sowing in the middle of April as ground is too cold just now. He told me other farmers are saying the same but he is hoping some on warmer sandy ground will start before then to help spread his workload.

Some light snow showers pushing through and there could be some more to come as the day goes on. Looking across the model suite this morning there is no real sign of an end to the cold conditions with some models hinting of a renewed push of cold in around a weeks time. This is a long way off and highly likley to change but this is an example from the GFS that a couple of days ago was going for mild conditions at this timescale.

Light snow and graupel shower. Another day of falling snow.

Edit: heavier now and leaving a temporary dusting.

Aye, even a bit of tiny snizzle falling here in Leith. Like many, almost can't remember a day there hasn't been either snow falling or lying.

Would like it to end ASAP after March 31st though !

Light snow and graupel shower. Another day of falling snow.

Snizzle here too, if the snow makes it to tomorrow which im sure it will. That will be 3 weeks that the snow patch has survived in the front garden!

The Leith snizzle become a Leith mini-blizzard of light but intense grauple, quite localised I think over North Edinburgh. Only just stopped. Most of Hillside/London Road was whitened, sun now coming out again.

Wasn't it about 2 days ago we were meant to be at the "light flurry" stage up and down the coast and central areas ? As usual the forecast has underestimated precipitation in this east-coast/easterly scenario.

Radar looking good this morning, woke up to my daughter telling me it was raining, of course it wasn't rain !

Very fine grainy snow / graupel, then bigger flakes mixed in. Like Ross another day of snow showers and another day of some snow cover remaining in the gardens.

Am completely bewildered by this mornings ECM - what a run! All your Winter madness wrapped up into one run, if this is Winter leaving then from a model perspective it has signed of in a classy manner if this verifies.

Next 24 hours sees the upper air at it's coldest for this current period maintaining the easterly theme before this happens.

At 120 a Scandi High elongates itself North of the UK, no jet energy going up the GIN corridor there whatsoever.

At 144 it then retrogresses to Greenland, this is just the start lol !

168 sees another fiercely negative AO solution and hints of cross polar flow as the whole Arctic is dominated by a 1055mb high. Ridiculous chart it is almost like an Omega Block layered onto an Omega Block with the vortex segments propping the main Arctic High above the Greenland one.

192 and the Low pressure to our North continues eastward towards Svalbard and in comes the Northerly.

Out at the end of the run a traditional Atlantic low is poised to drive on through the UK.

A beautiful set of synoptics from the ECM.

Dubai Floods: Another Warning Sign for Desert Regions?

The flooding in the Middle East desert city of Dubai earlier in the week followed record-breaking rainfall. It doesn't rain very often here like other desert areas, but like the deadly floods in Libya last year showed, these rain events are likely becoming more extreme due to global warming.
