A cold and windy night with variable cloud cover and a few flakes of snow after dawn. The 19th consecutive air frost last night which isn't a record but impressive enough at this time of year.

Yesterday:

Another clear, cold and frosty night. After a sunny start, low cloud drifted in from the east for an hour or so between 07:00 & 08:00 GMT. Good cloud breaks again before observation allowing sunny spells. All snow patches now melted away in my garden, still a few small drifts remaining in sheltered hedges on near by fields. Sunny spells continued through the day, feeling very cold though in the strong north-east wind. The evening started clear, and the temperature quickly fell with ground frost forming around 20:30GMT and air frost before midnight.

A little bit cloudier than yesterday which managed almost 13 hours of sunshine, but it was still very pleasant with long sunny spells. No frost here as the temperature was held up by the keen north-easterly wind blowing from the North Sea. It was a little cooler during the day aswell as a result.

Max Temp: 7.1C

Min Temp: 2.3C

10-min Wind: 14mph NE

Rainfall: None

Currently 5.6C and 80% humidity with partly cloudy conditions.

A cloudier day than yesterday with a few light snow flurries this morning but also some sunny intervals. The afternoon was dry with sunny intervals and quite long spells of cloudy weather. Very low humidity and a strong NE wind resulted in a dessicating effect on any vegetation.

At 1800 g.m.t;

Temp; 2.6c

Max' today; 4.0c

Min' last night; -1.1c

Grass ( snow ) min; -2.1c

Rainfall from 0800-1800 g.m.t; Trace

Sunshine today; 3.20 hrs

Mean wind speed; 25 mph NE

Highest gust today; 51 mph NE at 1126

4 oktas Cu and Ci

Vis; over 80 km

Snow cover now around 35%.

I was out and about in the southern half of the Peak District today and the northern facing slopes of the hills around Wardlow, Taddington, Monyash and Flagg all have more than 50% snow cover remaining above about 320 m. Elsewhere the snow cover seems to be between 10 and about 40%. Extensive drifts between 1m and 1.5 m deep along the A515 and also on the B6465 between Monsal Head and Wardlow where some of the piles of snow are still around 2m deep.

Even bigger piles of snow on the road leading from Taddington Moor towards Flagg, some are well over 2 m high and will probably still be there well into May.

There's also some remarkably persistent and extensive snow in the wooded areas along the Via Gellia ( and elsewhere ) which is only around 200 m above sea level but never gets any sunshine at this time of year.
