The warmest start here since the last time it rained 17 days ago! Still only 3.6c so I wonder if the current moderate rain is wintry up on Salisbury Plain. A brisk Easterly wind again after 48 hours without it.

JH..

It was interesting both in the drive to the Dolgellau area on Friday and returning today just how much more snow there is on the A494 and the hills around compared to the Peak.

Even this morning there are areas still with 70% snow cover and at a lower altitude than the Peak. Comparing the Woodhead top to some parts around the Bala area almost to the final drop towards Ellesmere and the Welsh area must have had considerably more snow than Derbyshire or so it seemed to me. For sure any though of climbing Cader Idris was a total non starter.

Hi John,

Ive no idea how much snowfall some got in the Welsh area's, but here the heavy disruptive drifting snow was only in very isolated prone areas from above 280m ish. Only 3 miles from here at Froggatt and Curber Edge and around Eyam the wind had more or less completely scoured it away. My location and TM's were in the hot spot's, but what with the severe drifting most of the snow got picked up and dumped into the valleys leaving some vast areas under 2m+ and others scoured down to bare grass. Some of the deep valleys round here still have at least 65% cover.

The wind has picked up a little since early'er, with a chill factor now of -2.9c.

Another depressingly poor "spring" day here, not climbing above 9c. Gloomy and overcast through the day, and still stuck with a foul Easterly pushing all the chemical pollution right over town. I'd even welcome some rain right now just a break from this monotony!!
