Your favourite beaches in the UK

Although the weather can be a bit unkind at times, we have some great beaches in the UK. For me Joss bay near Broadstairs in Kent has lots of great memories as my nan lived nearby and we'd spend many a fun day down there.

I have fantastic childhood memories of Aberdaron at the tip of the LLeyn Peninsular.

Lovely fishing village - with a beach that had great sand, south facing, perfect slope for building dams (and for the waves) and with a rock pool.

I haven't been back for 30 years now but would love to return there one day.

Perranporth in Cornwall, and it has nothing to do with the pub in the middle of the beach!

Porthcurno near Lands End for my money. Light coloured sand and crystal clear water provides some of the best visibility in the world at times,

even up there with parts of the Red Sea or Bahamas. Just a pity the water temp is 10-20c colder!!

Blackpool Sands, nr Stoke Fleming, nr Dartmouth, South Devon.

We holidayed in the village of Stoke Fleming year after year during my childhood. Back then Blackpool Sands was a gem that was yet to be discovered (compared to today).

In the last 10 years it often gets featured in travel sections of the quality newspapers. The area itself (south hams area of S Devon) is v popular for those with second homes.

Bedruthan Steps in Cornwall may well be it for me. Big sandy beach (completely covered and cleaned of footprints etc at high tide though) with sand excellent for walking on barefoot, and some big/dramatic rock formations rising from the sand. You have to walk down steep narrow steps down the cliff but that's fine for me.

Of course I like local beaches around here like Sidmouth and Exmouth. Some on the Gower and Pembrokeshire are excellent too, and many I haven't been to so don't really know them of course)

I thought of those two when I mentioned the Gower above, Unfortunately I haven't been able to visit them yet but if I did I wouldn't be surprised if they were around the top of my favourite beach list.

Dymchurch on the Kent coast has many a childhood memory for me as my nan and grandad had a caravan, so we spent a lot of the summer there when I was a kid.  Infact, we took mini-raven there every year until the fairground got a bit too childlike for her.

 

Sandown on the Isle of Wight is also a lovely beach, and Jersey too have some nice ones.

 

Here's a picture of me in 1985 on the beach in Jersey (where I spent most of the time trying to dig my way to Australia - I didn't get very far!)

shedhead and Stormmad26 got there first lol. When was I very young between age 2-6, a period that didn't see me go abroad much apart from to Brasil to see family, we took holidays to Helston Passage in Cornwall. I remember hopping in the car and going to the most picturesque beach I had seen at the time but until now didn't realise that it was in fact Porthcurno! Beautiful place.

I also love Bedruthan for its natural appearance of rocks just plopped within unspoilt sand. Also had an awesome seafood dinner one evening along the coast at Padstowe.

Well being from Pembrokeshire I would have to go for my home county. I am a big fan of Swanlake Bay and Skrinkle Haven and Barafundle Bay is right up there too. However, I think Flimston Bay does it for me. Very reminiscent of Bedruthan Steps in Cornwall but with no-one around.

One beach I've always had the intention to visit, but not yet found the time, even when driving on the nearest road is Sandwood Bay, NW Sutherland.  Anyone been there?

Pretty much all of the Cornish coast. It eats any other part of the UK for breakfast.

For me Newborough Beach on Anglesey beats them all, miles of sand and small outcrops with the Snowdonia  mountain range just a stone's throw away and also a nature reserve. My friend and I camped out here on our first night of the Anglesey coastal walk which took us 6 days, was an unforgettable sunrise when we woke.

 

 

Also Robin Hoods Bay is just a gem..

There are some great beaches in England. Top 5 must be

1. Woolacombe for its vast beach and surf

2. Blackpool sands, Nr Dartmouth for its parking, cafe and great pine tree backdrop

3. Chapel porth, St Agnes, Cornwall for its cafe.

4. Porthcurno for its soft sand and turquoise sea, plus a sun trap

5. Rosselli, Wales for great coast scenery

A wee cove called Watcombe(?) Bay, in south Devon...Absolutely fantastic with shallow warm water...The bint with the very natural Mae Wests wasn't bad either!

Gwithian, Godrevy and St Ives in Cornwall. Cornish beaches beats any others hands down for beauty. Gyllynngvase and Swanpool in Falmouth are also recommended if you want to chill on a pleasant beach but these are small beaches not for strolling but playing/relaxing! Woolacombe in Devon is also a great beach!
