Ambling along Swansea bay when the tide is out. Miles and miles of sand, and beautiful views

and already mentioned Camber sands.

St Ives beach, all the bright contrasting colours there.

Bude beach, Devon for its isolation and surfy cultural feel.

Rhossili gets my vote for favourite, it's wonderful. There's also a beautiful, tiny National Trust cottage available for holiday rental just off the beach, set back in the pasture - it's heavenly. Downside to Rhossili, it's one hell of a walk down to the beach from the car park at the top; it's got to be at least 100 steps, if not more - nightmare for those with a pushchair.

Second is Lulworth Cove, great for snorkling, safe and contained for young children, dogs allowed too which is a real bonus for me with my water mad Spaniels.

Third...(it's only third as it's so far from here), pretty much anywhere on the West coast of Scotland. Mile upon mile of the purest, almost white sand, rarely another soul in sight. If you've never been, you really should one day.

Another amazing beach or rather beaches, are those on Tresco. Spotlessly clean, pure white sand, warm, crystal clear sea and loads of exotic looking shells to collect too. It's quite pricey to stay on Tresco and can be quite difficult to get a booking anyway as it's mostly timeshare, you're reliant on people renting out their time, but you don't have to stay there to enjoy the beaches. St Mary's is bigger and cheaper and probably much better if you've got a family as there's more to do there. Boats regularly sail to the other islands, including Tresco - it's a short trip, and not too expensive for a day out. If you go, particularly if you have a family, take a picnic with you. There's one shop, one hotel and one pub on Tresco, they know they have a captive market and boy do they know how to charge!

Portreath is quite nice and the place has a fascinating history linked to the mining industry.

Those Scottish Isle beaches remind me of Donegals beaches, absolutely stunning scenery. Not much here in N.Ireland apart from up near Portrush. Very cold but good for surfing.

Of course my home beach at Pevensey Bay is a favourite as I'm on it so much!

It's a nice mix of extensive sand at low tide, shingle with plants further up and lots of other interesting features along the shoreline:

Silver Strand and White Strand beaches, near Louisburgh, Co Mayo, Ireland.

Just spectacular. These pictures (not mine) don't do them justice.

Quaint little bit of beach, but I enjoy it and spent many happy holidays in Swanage as a kid:

Goodrington Sands near Paignton and Castle Cove at Dawlish although the railway track that runs behind the beach can be a bit noisy at times.

Perranporth in Cornwall, and it has nothing to do with the pub in the middle of the beach!

I was there september 2011. The views we're absolutely fantastic!

My favourite beach is Camusdarach (Silver Sands of Morar) in the NW Highlands. It offers the most magnificent views to the islands of Mull and Eigg aswell as the the Red and Black Cullins of Skye. Amazing sunsets on late summer nights. The beach has also been used for the films Local Hero and Highlander.

My favourite is definitely Ross Sands in Northumberland, just south of Holy Island.

It has Lindisfarne Castle at one end and Bamburgh at the other.

It's a long beach, very quiet, the closest you can park is about 2 miles away which keeps most people away. Been there with my girlfriend about 5 times now and sometimes we have it to ourselves even on decent days. Just got to watch out for the odd nudist!

I would post some of my photos of it but I'm at work. I can highly recommend it though.

St. Ives and Scarborough would get my vote.

By the way you haven't 'done' St. Ives until you've had your pasty stolen by a seagull.

They are partial to fish and chips as well. Actually they can be quite frightening especially if you have young children with you. At a local primary recently they had to employ a hawk to cause a bit of mayhem as the gulls were nicking the kids lunches.
