Your favourite beaches in the UK

I see how they can be intimidating. They're big, noisy, narky-looking things. I was five when the pasty I was enjoying disappeared in a flash. Nearby an old lady had her large baguette taken from her and dragged through the sand - she still made her husband chase after it, probably out of spite.

 

I actually have quite a bit of affection towards seagulls (they get a lot of bad rep) but the ones in St Ives are a different breed altogether - proper avian thugs! Having your food nicked is practically a rite of passage there.

By the way you haven't 'done' St. Ives until you've had your pasty stolen by a seagull.

Well for me it's got to be the home town and best example of a "city" beach we have in this country, 7 miles or so of golden sand centred on Bournemouth.

 

 

There's honestly no beach I'd rather go to. I'm not a huge fan of all the covey sorts of beaches, would rather have a long expanse of sand attached to a decent sized town. I'd love Tampa, San Diego or Miami for example.

 

Also got a bit of fondness for Eastbourne as I used to live there, but the stones are an issue.

My favorite beach is in Fowey. I like the peacefulness of the beach and it's also near the town center so, getting the suplies for a beach outing is not a hassle. There are also holiday cottages near the beach. I usually stay at Farthings gotten from my booking with http://www.bluechipholidays.co.uk/fowey-holiday-cottages. It has easy access to many of Cornwalls top attractions so if you want to explore more places, it's a practical place to stay. Sennen Cove in Cornwall is fantastic, went here this year, incredibly clean beach and water

For sand, Swanage!

 

 

I couldn't agree more! I also beach fish right over the other side where the white bits are in the cliffs, occasionally, if it's a spring tide i'll walk out on the rocks to the point and even go around it to spin for conger/wrasse/bass.

 

Swanage was always one of my favs as a kid, as well as Shell Bay around the corner a bit. I've never really been a big fan of going to the beach during the Summer (in the daytime) i can't think of anything worse than heading to a place where there's thousands of people surrounding you like flies around poo. I don't find that fun or relaxing, so i'd either go in the early evening when most people had left or failing that, i would go to pebble/rock beaches, such as Seacombe/Dancing Ledge/Windspit, they are further round to the right of Swanage, they're small coves of limestone rocks and caves, hardly anyone would go there, same with Warbarrow bay - a bit of a walk but as it was pebbles, it wouldn't be packed out with people.

Porth Iago is a nice isolated beach, near abersoch (also a good beach) on the Lleyn peninsula in  North Wales.

Portreath. The end of the harbour wall (seen in the distance) with the famous "Monkey Hut" is no more after the weekend. Seen better in the other shot.

Portreath beach is the first sight as a child, I ever had of Cornwall. Dad had driven through the night and parked up for a sleep just before dawn, we woke up to the most beautiful sight that has never left me
